This being the very first time I have mentioned I'm currently being tested for another ACQUIRED neuromuscular demyelinating disorder to share the spotlight with my "Iatrogenic Acquired Central Pontine Myelinolysis, I can't resist "Speaking Up," in regard to an event that took place today.
After being told to report all new issues/events, I truly was hoping today's new stage of having sensory, numbness and several pain problems in my arm, shoulder, neck and back on one side was not something I was looking forward to. Not even knowing the pains were about to escalate, I called one of the very cordial secretaries at the office of the neuromuscular department at a major Top Ten teaching university.
Just past noon, my message was taken and I was given the doctor's name who would be contacting me this afternoon. As I do my best to stay within the over the counter pain remedies, this time after two different ones with little relief and no communication it was time to go to the prescribed little fella's waiting in the vile. It wasn't long before I came to the reality this wasn't your everyday pain issue. Now after 4:00PM, I immediately called the offices back hoping surely there could not be an error in the communication line. Yes, the phone were on automatic voice mail likely storing calls for tomorrow even though their hours are stated till 4:30PM.
Come 7:00PM and still no replies, I had to force myself to call the in-house emergency number to the doctor's exchange. After stating the doctors name and relaying all my info needed along with hearing the famous phrase about if you don't get the call to contact the exchange again.
OK, everything sound pretty generic so far. The build up is over so pay attention.
The call comes at 7:40PM with the greeting "This is Dr. _____, what can I do for you?" Not feeling my best knowing my message was given already to his office also his exchange as well as noting I'm use to hearing his greeting at a department store, I precede to ask the young doctor if he received my message from the office secretary as I also made him aware of the fact of not having call waiting or automatic voice mail by asking him if our line was busy. The Good: He does not lie. The Bad: I hope your not part of this new doctors soon to be built practice. (Hopefully he'll get a quick wake up call)
"I left the office early today and was planning on calling you tomorrow." Sorry, but it gets worse from this point of concern.

Note: When we as patients are sadly involved in similar scenarios please remember there are all kinds and no where does it say that we must accept unethical health care caused by doctors as such.
