Does anyone here have handicapped plates because of TOS and difficulty walking distances (from the weight of my arm)

I am lucky to live in a coastal town. We only have a few handicapped spaces near the beach . Everyone else has to walk from the parking lot 1/2 mile down the road. I just can't do it most of the time. My kids are out of school for the summer and that's all they want to do. I just feel like an idiot asking my doctor if I would qualify.

Every now and then, I have a good pain day and have no problem walking from parking lot normal spaces if I go to a store/church/etc. That 1/2 mile stroll to the beach turns a good pain day into a bad one for me (unless I use narcotics, but then I can't drive anyhow)

Do you think he'd laugh in my face if I asked for a handicapped plate ? We don't NEED to go to the beach, we just WANT to.

Finz,
I also has TOS I get very tired and easily fatigued.

Even with grocery shopping etc I now have help

with Activities of Daily living and no one laughed in my face

depends on how understanding your Doctor is.

I wish you well ALL YOU CAN DO IS ASK it can't hurt explain the

situation all he can do is say No.

Good Luck,

Finz. in PA part of the application is limitations on carrying to with TOs that is a huge part. I would ask the doctor. Explain you like the walk as you can, but in flare ups it limits you even getting groceries when you are in high flare.

That the purpose is to use it when physically necessary....docs like to ehar that stuff.
Also I bought this cart recently, I used the stroller for far too many years post Katie;s needs. But this works great.

The handles pop right on, and two sets of wheels, no tools needed. Seconds to put together. It is very light, carrys the cooler, towels and sand toys to the pool and beach . At the parks I can lean on it to walk and also carry cooler, sweaters, and extra needs.

i just asked my internist here in MD today to sign the handicap application and he seems to think i'm too young and will get better if i go for a second surgery so he only issued for a 6 month handicap tag. if i had been smart i would have asked my surgeon who had just written a letter to my internist explaining i was in severe condition and needed multiple surgeries and that he doubted i'd recover and that i have a permanent disability. my internist never bothered reading the letter. my internist is uninformed when it comes to TOS and doesn't understand my situation. i was just too shy and didn't ask the surgeon to sign the permanent handicap application - now i'll have to wait to see my surgeon again and ask in a few months. (the surgeon is an hour away).

i guess what i'm saying is - make sure you ask the doctor who is thoroughly involved in your case. he may or may not say yes but it's worth a try.
