Great! Somebody should create a school program geared to train special tutors, teachers, mentors in different ways to communicate with the autistic and to commit to work 1:1 for an autistic for at least 5 years. It would really make a huge difference on the lives of the autistic.

Liz:

This is so cool! I didn't hear anything about this, but check out their website:

I'd like to meet up with them, but don't know if I'll be able to, as they're going to be 3 hours away. If I AM able to arrange it, though, I'll let you know.

In the meantime, this gives me an idea for a fundraiser for my campus for Fall.

Nope, not last year, but I posted a quick note about these guys earlier in the spring. They are local and use the same web design service provider that I use, so I got to watch their site go live!

We are doing something cool at Union College this summer, not really affiliated with their fund drive: bike camp! Yep, one week of intensive 1.5-hour one-on-one focused training for kids (spectrum and Downs) to get them to graduate from training wheels to "big kid" bikes! I've got both of my boys signed up and we are really looking forward to the experience. For more information, check out www.losethetrainingwheels.org.

Wow, Kim, that bike program looks amazing! I would so love for Allie to do something like that. She can't even do training wheels yet- peddling is a problem. This would be so good for her in so many ways. But, alas, no program in AZ....
