There should be a law that says if you can't get social security, Voch Rehab should help you........

This being tossed back and forth between these agencies is absolutely ridiculous!!!!!

Same goes for Senior and Disabled services......I think that if you have children, Senior and Disabled Services should be able to help you.....it should not MATTER (and its discrimination..... ) I've been discriminated for having a child for work and also housing, this too!!!!!!

DHS/Welfare should have a department that addresses disabled clients, it does not...they just ignore us.....and Senior and Disabled Services is not helping........you can't get social security and Voch Rehab makes excuses too.......

It's just not right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sunshine2,
I agreee with you! What is the criteria for going to voch rehab? It took me 3 years to get Social Security, so don't give up on that. I was never offered a chance to go to voch rehab. I lived off of my parents income until my Social Security came through. I felt like such a burden! But I knew and they knew that I couldn't work. I don't understand why it takes so long when your Doctors say you are disabled, that should be good enough!:(

I agree with you 100%, but I don't know how to change things. I can offer you my sympathy. Love, Javisi;)

Hi, thank you for responding to my whining....

Voch Rehab is for anyone who has been injured and/or has disabling conditions and would like them to help train into and/or find another line of work to be able to go back to work....they have denied helping me for 15 years (the very first time that they had ever denied me, they told me to come back when I no longer had any back problems....I had injured my back while working...I broke it actually....and have been diagnosed with lots more wrong with it ever since)..

Supposeduly, Voch Rehab has a LOT of other RESOURCES for people who would like to work....especially if they have had barriers in employment.....for instance, I just talked to someone from another state who informed me he knows of two different people who have had help in procuring transportation to be able to use in helping them to get to work (I have no car)...I have also heard of Voch Rehab doing things like helping clients get air cleaners for their homes to help keep them healthy too (I have asthma and get bronchitis several times a year and end up going to the Emergency Room because of it).....I live on a busy street and get toxic air from all the cars 24/7 and all my neighbors on either side of me and above me smoke cigarettes ALL the time and if I have my windows open I get smoke coming into my windows because they sit out on their steps and blow smoke.....I can't afford to replace the filters to my HEPA filter either, havn't had HEPA filters for over 3 years now........I've tried the beauracratic runaround through the hospital and just finally gave up because nobody actually helped me to get the HEPA filters, they always sent me to someone else tho.........etc.

What I'm getting at, these things are barriers to me ever getting a job again........I have had several people tell me to just go back to college and I am like, so, how am I going to GET there? I'm struggling with my life as it is and you want me to go to and from college and take care of my health issues and my child too? all with no car?

Well........

If I could leave this state and go somewhere else, I would do it because it is obvious people here could just care less about me...that is what I'm beginning to think.

Ok, enough whining for today.

Sunshine,
Do you go to church or is their a food pantry where you live. Sometimes they have the funds to help with bills besides just giving you food. Here in Nebraska, I have heard of Social Services providing a car to people that are in need of one. I don't understand why each state is so different.

I wish I knew how to help you, It seems like you are falling through the cracks, and unfortunatly many people do!:(

Unfortunatly the people that abuse the system are the one's that ruin it for the ones in need:mad: . I wish so bad I had the answers for you or better yet I wish I were rich, then I would just buy you a car! But unfortunatly I am not since I live off of Social Security but the thought is nice. I guess we can dream? Whine all you want, I will listen to you!:)

Dreaming Big and Reaching for the Stars, Love Javisi:)

Hi Javisi: I'm not trying to put church's down, but many won't do anything for you unless you have been attending their church and are an active member....if you struggle with transportation and health issues, you tend to get forgotten about. Church's are not set up, nor do they want to deal with people's transportation issues (especially women who have been divorced/abandoned who are good parents)...there would be much more out there for me if I just got out of jail or prison, or was convicted for drug trafficing, etc.....many church's don't have any sort of a ministry for the single parents, sad to say. I have food, I get food stamps. I need things like transportation, etc. I did recently finally find a place to give us a ride to go get groceries once a month, it took me 5 years to find that...I had asked the church and other people but I was told it was too much trouble so we had to haul groceries in backpacks 4 or 5 times a month, we did this for 5 years and it didn't help my back problems much, but I didn't have much choice. I don't want anyone here to buy me a car, so I hope that you don't think that is what I am getting at. I applied at this one place called "charity cars" three different times now, but never even got a response from them and the last time I checked, they weren't even taking any more applications. I guess that they are overloaded.

Several times I've been told to check with Salvation Army and some of those other places that TAKE cars for donations, people seem to be under the FALSE impression that they GIVE cars away when they do not.

I was talking to some person way over on the other side of the United States (who I have never met and only met in a group online) and he wants me to move to where he is at because he "knows church's that would help" but I really don't think that is a wise thing to do....I don't know this person at all. Why he would think I would even consider it unless I knew him well and could check him out thoroughly (which costs money to do) is beside me.....but he is painting this picture that there is all kinds of help where he is at and that people care a lot there.

Sunshine, you may be barking up the wrong tree. You might try looking into the Americans with Disabilities Act. This is the federal legislation that requires employers to make reasonable accomodation for people with disabilities. Look in your phone book. Also look for the Equal Opportunities Commision.

They may not have an answer for you but might be able to refer you someplace that is more specific to your needs. Cheerio.

The last job I had (at a church, mind you) I was demoted because of my health issues....it was minimum wage and NO benefits....I would like to have Voch Rehab to do their job (what our tax dollars pay for) and actually help me to find good employment........Voch Rehab even says I should get social security.....everyone says I should get social security, except for social security.

What my OP is about is the fact that the beauracracy of getting social security, or any of these other SERVICES (which our tax dollars pay for mind you, i worked for over 32 years)....should actually DO something for you when you NEED them..........not, let me repeat NOT give you the RUNAROUND!!!!!

Mother Theresa had the exact same problems.

What does the Americans with disabilities act have to do with social security, voch rehab or senior and disabled services? I don't understand ....

As far as my needs, I need some of these places to do their jobs, that is what I need. I wanted to get my bookkeeping certificate (I've done bookkeeping before, but not certified) so I could get paid more than minimum wage and no benefits for part time work. I was working part time before and couldn't handle it, mainly because my transportation ended up breaking and that created such a hardship on me on top of everything else.
