It's a blog about the ongoing experience of an only child coping with his father's Alzheimer's experience. It's a no-holds-barred, tell-it-like-it-is blog.

He's trying to allow his father to remain in his own apartment until the last possible moment. All of it sounds like, and is, a full-time job, of course. You already know that.

Could hold useful information for those who come later, could help with understanding the AD person and what to expect.

Includes his frustrations with institutions and companies providing (or not providing) various kinds of medical attention and/or care.

NT, thank you for posting Alans Blog.
i will read the rest of it as I have time. I haven't found anything yet that I haven't been there done that. I don't like the over used been there, but it best describes my feelings.
Alan has done a super job of things thus far. The Social Services seem to be the same everywhere in the U.S. There are certain things one can do if they do it "before dx'ed". I think it stinks and their goal is to take every penny one has. They WILL investagate to make sure they haven't found missed a penny!!
My mother-in-law has Alzheimer's D. She was dex'ed over 10 +. At this time the Dr. has told my husband she was in the last stage. He has POA as well as medical POA. Although he has siblings 2 of them started helping a little After we had to place her.
Th Nursing Home business is another pet peeve of mine! Alans approach sounds much like hubbys. the "fight with medicare, medacad, Vet. Admin., NH, they all operate the same, after the almighty $$.

I won't go on and on, but found this last night and read until I couldn't see. I wanted to thank you for posting this URL. I hope others will find it helpful. It is a bit hidden with Burdicks long list of things, but hopefully people will at least read the parts that pertains to thier situation.

Thank you again, Jo aka Julia

p.s. MIL's neuro told us not have surgery done unless

it was an emergency. Sometimes the patient came back
other times they lost much that they will never get back
