Previous mammograms showed fibrocystic breast. Did ultrasounds, nothing found. Had implants 6 years ago and removed cysts. Last month mammogram showed microcalcifications, so add’l views were done: Persistent small minimally pleomorphic cluster of microcalcifications w/in outer right periareolar region regarded w/ low degree of suspicion for malignancy. Calcifications vary slightly in shape and density and are tightly clustered over an approx 3 to 4 mm area.
Biopsy findings: Right breast tissue, outer quadrant, core needle biopsies: Rare calcifications associated w/benign breast tissue including fibrocystic change (duct estasia, apocrine metaplasia, and stromal fibrosis, usual and florid ductal hyperplasia). Markerwas put in for future. Was told by nurse that nothing malignant, but doctor is referring me to breast oncology doctor for second opinion. What does the pathology report mean? Also, never had bruising, swelling or pain after biopsy, but 2 weeks later, I am having a burning sensation (like my clothes rubbing on it burns), slight redness and pain on nipple and also an indention near the biopsy site and below it. Please advise what could be causing this. Is it possibly the clip/marker? I am really stressing over this.

Daywalker,
I also have fibrocystic breasts, I have had removal of lumps from both of my breasts. They contained a rare staph infection. If the Nurse says that the biopsy was malignent, but I would call your Dr and ask him why you are being sent to a oncologist!

He maybe wanting to send you there just as a precautionary measure. I hope that is the case. My grandma had a radical mastectomy over 30 years a go. The plastic surgeon talked about calcification from a leak in her implants. Essentially they were both leaking and had to be removed.:(

It is hard for Dr's to know if you have a lump or if it is fiberous tissue, unfortunatly. I wish I had the answers that you are looking for! Please keep in touch and let me know what you find out!

Daywalker,
I am interested! I just went through something similar to what you have going on. I would encourage you to look up each word and on this site in the dictionary. I would but am still tired and weak from my hospital stay.

My granmother did have breast implants, they were inserted many years ago. She noted a large lump near her pacemaker. She thought it was bleeding from the Pacemaker site. They did pathology and also referted her to an Oncologist just to get a second opinionm. This is often done even when the tissue appears to be benign ( non cancerous) Dr's would never want to miss something.

She had calcificatiopn also. Hardened areas that were due to a leak from her implant. She had to have them both removed. At her age she did not have them replaced.I wish I were a Dr. or Radiologist so I could see and answer all of your questions but I am not. I am an average person that was a Nurse that can't practice any more due to memory problems! But I still have the desire help people! I am so sorry that I can not answer all of your questions and I hope your Dr answers them soon. Maybe you could schedule a time just to sit down and talk to him. Write all of the questions down that you want to ask. Be straight forward and if you don't understand , tell him!

Wishing you all of the best! And I do care and did not abandon you. I just got sick and had to spend some time in the hospital.
