It took 15+ years (1991-2007) to resolve an illness that, when it began, seemed like a complete mystery. Underlying this illness was thyroid failure (Hashimoto's thyroiditis) caused by gluten intolerance. Getting rid of gluten got rid of the anti-thyroid antibodies, but the illness would not resolve until I found a smart M.D. who knew that neurological symptoms like anxiety, insomnia, and depression could be caused by pyroluria.
At this point, I have not a clue as to where the gluten intolerance or pyroluria came from, because I sure didn't have the symptoms of them when I was young.
If you know of someone with simliar symptoms, point them to this history. I just hope it short-circuits the diagnosis process for someone else. The history is at URL:
