Drew is starting to say things he does or wants to do and subbing in other names, per an emotions workbook his teacher put together: e.g. "Brian picked his legs. How does he feel?"

Well, we have worked for some time on trying to get him to stop picking his skin, and he was making progress, so when I heard him say this, I teased, "Stoooopid!"

He wasn't getting it. :( He and Liz, his therapist, were out yesterday, and when he said this, she repeated, "How does he feel?" and Drew said, "Itchy."

Duuuuhhhh, Mom! :o :( I'm such an idiot! :( I hope I can fix this...:(

LIZARD, thoroughly embarrassed mom :(

I'm trying to remember: when Drew's with his therapist, do you sit in on the
sessions, or do you leave the two of them alone? If you're together during
the sessions, is this something you can work on together (all 3 of you)?

Just thinkin' out loud...:)

We can. They're gone for about 2-3 hours, but we have at least an hour when we can do this or address any other issues.

Isn't it amazing how we can sometimes have the absolutely wrong take on something???! Don't waste too much time beating yourself up! We've all done the same thing!

Hope you can find out why he's itchy and what to do about it.

I'm feeling rather dense. The responses surprised me.
I'm not sure what reply the therapist was trying to elicit. Was itchy his answer, or was it one supplied by the therapist in a previous session? Is it the one she expected? or did she mean for him to refer to anxiety? I'm not trying to be disingenuous...I really am not following. I also don't think I understand for sure where you feel you went wrong. I guess I'm low on analytical power and need to have it spelled out for me. Would you mind?

oooooooooooooooooooh. I just figured out he answered "stooopid" the first time she asked.
