I went my oldest son's baseball game tonight, a foul ball came and hit me in the knee, outer portion, dropped me to the ground...I saw stars, knocked the wind out of me.

I woulda cried if I could've . .. hurt so dang bad. Now it hurts even worse. Even worse I have crap insurance so the ER is out of the question. I have it elevated above my heart, icing it, took my b/t med. My knee is almost the size of the baseball!! I can bear weight, kind of. I cannot bend it though I could shortly afterward but now the swelling is so bad I cannot.

Anyone have recommendations? What else can I do? Sheesh. All because of stupid foul ball....

Thanks in advance.

Krash, I am so sorry that you are not doing well! I know that ins is sometime an issue but plz go have an x ray done. Sounds like something may be broken???

I wish I could offer some home remedy that would help, but you seem to have that covered already. the only thing that came to mind was a knee brace when you are standing and walking, and of course crutches. But I am sure you knew that already.;)

Plz, take it easy...

and ps your screen name is perfect for this....Krash...sorry just trying to make you smile through the pain:o :)

Take care of you

Krashleen,

OMG! I would definitely have an xray done! And icing it is probably the best thing you could do right now and maybe some anti-inflammatories.

My knee and my husband's knee are killing us right now from osteo and probably stretched or torn ligaments. But not the kind of pain you are experiencing! And I wanted to say something about a knee brace. I asked that very question the other day of my Ortho doc regarding my husband's knee. And he said DO NOT put a brace on it...neither one of us! And I had been wearing mine for awhile. But our situation is either torn or pulled ligaments and like I said, osteo. And he said NOT to wear a brace because we could actually make it worse. And the next step would be MRI's for both of us. But until then...ice and anti-inflammatories and rest or try not to use our bad knees too much.

Anyway, really, I probably wouldn't do a thing except ice for now until you can get it checked out. Ouch! You are making me see stars right now because mine just hurts and aches...but not near what you are going through. Please get it checked out regardless.

Oh my gosh, like Kathi I can almost see the starts and feel the pain.
It sounds that you are doing all you can for now.
Will your Dr. be able to get you in ASAP?

Call your doc. An x-ray is a very good idea.

Krashleen, remember I am a football coach and know the majority of pains are nothing so I am going to tell you to use RICE just as you are. RICE - rest, ice compression, and elevation that is as much as a doctor can do except run you through expensive test.

Don't get me wrong, an X-ray would be okay but you are exhibiting any other problems that really show you need a look. Give it a week and it should still be sore but manageable and gradually go away.

Thanks Mark...It just throbs. I bought an Ace bandage and keeping it elevated above my heart. Icing. Dang !!

I got a big honking bruise there now. I've been reading and it looks like I should give it two three days, and then if it doesn't get to feeling better, then get to the doc.

Thing was due to my neck fusion I couldn't turn at all when I was being yelled at to move. So I couldn't see the ball or know which direction to move to. We were way past the third base line near the outfield fence. Weird, it was like a rocket.

These are 22+ yo young men so they hit hard! The young man that hit the ball came and looked at it and said "gnarly' and apologized. My son's friend from grade school brought me ice...and my son when he got the chance came over too.

I think I will be okay. It throbs pretty bad though.

thanks for the advice. Rains it pours eh?

The player at least restores my confidence in young men again:D . Glad to hear that you aren't having any extra trouble with it and you should be able to move around without alot of trouble by Thursday or Friday. The bruise will be with you for a couple of weeks.

Kathy, I was just wondering how your knee is doing?

saw the doc at urgent care, x-rayed it, was told that it was alright. I knew the doc from another urgent care..and he is really nice.

Still swollen, still bruised, still sore. He said "its one for the books" so you know its a good one. He wasn't used to seeing ppl get hit in the knee. Of course I cannot move or turn my head due to my fusion so the "lookout Kathy" warning, well nothing I could do cause I didn't know which way it was coming or which way to go.
Sigh. The doc said I would probably get a seroma but don't worry about it. Bruising should go away in a couple of weeks.
Thanks for asking.
