Dan....Give the board a break. It's only been an hour since you posted your question. Possibly no one has been around in the last hour that can answer your question. I can't. I do hope you get answers though, just have some patience.

Dan,
I use to take it and didn't have any side effects, I was taking it for depression and it really didn't help me though.
However my DH started it a while back and it has worked great for him and he hasn't been having any side effects.
Good luck hope it is able to help you.

I have been taking it for several years and i feel it helps me. I suffer depression. He added Remeron and the combo does help a lot. Better quality of sleep. No apparent side effects.:)

Now, you guys just wait a min. You can't leave without me. If you want a thread to fall off page one, call Jo, she will post and nobody else does.

Same thing when I start a thread, it flies off the board so fast you don't really see it. Yes, I have wondered why, but decided I would try to help support others and try not to let their thread fall off with a clunk!!

Ole jo, still here:p

Dan,

Sorry, little late responding...just got back from my grad trip to Amsterdam yesterday, and I've been so busy graduating and all that, I haven't been here for more than a minute or two for the past two weeks or even longer..

I've been on wellbutrin xl for a bit over a year. My pain doc put me on it after my last pain increase, and I've been fine on it. I've noticed a pick up in my energy and emotions, so I think it's been working well. However, it didn't quite do alot for the cravings. I'm a smoker (I know, I know, worst thing for me, I know. I'm planning on quitting in the not to distant future now that school is over.) and it hasn't done anything for me as far as craving nicotine. My doctor did call it something funny, which shows it's potential effects perfectly: it's "the happy, horny, skinny pill" because it picks up your mood, picks up your sex drive, and also decreases any kinds of cravings, like those for chocolate, ice cream, and other craveable foods. It's a shame it really hasn't worked for me as far as the last two. Did make me happier though.

I haven't had any negative side effects, at least none that I have noticed.

Sorry this post came a little late...things have been beyond nuts for the past few weeks, and then when I got back last night, I wasn't doing anything that kept me away from my bed for more than minutes, and I knew coming on here would be a lot longer than that. So, hopefully, this will help or add some info to the discussion...

Thank you everyone for responding to this question... I wasent sure why the Doc prescribed the Wellbutrin and he dident say why either. Ive heard a lot of Pain docs prescribe anti depresents so I just wanted to check... Maybe it will help me stop smoking if I decide to do that. I dont feel any happier yet and Im not drooling at the opposite sex either. It does make me somewhat twitchy and Ive got a headache since I started it... I guess Ill give it a couple more days..
Once again Thank you for the responses....

It usually takes 4-6 weeks for the antidepressant effect to kick in, don't know how long it would take if it was prescribed for something else. I took it for depression for awhile but it didn't seem to do much for me.

I've been on it for years. For depression, not pain though.

I think it really helps me, nothing else has so far (I tried a lot of meds).

When I first started I had headaches and my eyes were sensitive to sunlight. If I get a dose increase the headaches come back some, and my eyes are still a little more sensitive then they were before the med.

I would give it a few weeks. The headaches suck, but it may be worth it in the end - it was for me.

Also, if you do continue and need a dose increase, the 300mg pills are available in generic now.
