and those than are currently serving, I give my thanks to all of you for serving our nation.

All those that paid the ultimute price------their life, I honor them. My dear uncle died on Normandy Beach. I'm sure there are others that have missing family members.

My husband gave them 6 years of his life during the Viet Nam war. My heart aches every time I think of the shameful way many were treated when they returned.

Never the less, we finally did do something, the VN Wall in Washington DC.

I hope all that read here will do so in honor of our current serving as well as our VET's

I hope all will take this in the light it was meant. thank you, Julia

Julia, the Memorial Day thanks is so nice of you. I served in the Marine Corps from 1974-1978 and gained more than I ever gave. They demanded much from me but taught me that I could achieve whatever I was willing to work for.

To all the other veterans Have a Great Memorial Day and lets remember those that died while serving their country.

Thanks Julia
I served 18 months in Viet Nam 68-70 only to return no where near the gratitude youve shown.. I guess thats a sore spot that will never go away for some of us. Ive been to the memorial many times as I live pretty close to it.. Never fails to bring me back..
Thanks again

Julia thanks for the post. My brother is currently serving in the Army and my son is going tomorrow to sign up. I've had many members of my family that were in Vietnam and I give thanks to all that served our country and to all that are currently serving our country.
Politics aside, these men and women deserve our greatest respect and honor.

Julia,

I thank you too. My husband served in the Army from 1968 to 1991; 1970-1971 in Vietnam. We have been to the Memorial once and I can tell you he almost couldn't make the walk through it; he didn't say anything and he didn't have to. I knew. And I believe my husband feels as Mcdan does. He will speak of Vietnam and what happened upon returning but not very often. He is now a DOD employee and so was I. So, we have both been around the military for many, many years. I also have a nephew currently in Iraq. My brother was also in Vietnam.

I also give thanks to all that have served our country in all wars and ones currently serving. They DO deserve our respect and honor.

I would also like to add my deepest respect and thanks for all those that have served our country throughout it's history. My family has many members that have served, including one uncle that was an Air Force lifer. He served in WWII, Korean War twice and Vietnam 3 times. On his last tour, the man that went in to rescue him received the Congressional Medal of Honor! Since he was gone so much, he and my aunt made many babies when he was home.:) My Dad broke his back in France during WWII. One cousin went to West Point but didn't see war.

I went to the traveling Vietnam Memorial when it came to my town. The emotions it brought out in me were totally overwhelming and completely unexpected as I don't know if I know anyone on the wall. I graduated HS in 1964 so I am sure there are school friends on that wall. What happened upon their return is nothing less than disgraceful to the maximum.

Our men and women serving, past or present, deserve every bit of respect and appreciation that we can give them.

Thank you Jo for starting this thread.

My hubby is active duty - and my son has been talking about joining.

I can't stand the way y'all Vietnam vets were treated. Makes me sick. I have family members that served in Vietnam. Just shameful.

Julia - I too thankyou for the kind thoughts....USMC 72-81 and upon my return was very gratefull I did not have any weapons close at hand when a couple of hairbags' woman [i think] spit on me. That triggered the black rage and were it not for a couple cops hustleing me out of there, well alot of that history I've spent a lifetime trying to forget.

Maybe someday. I don't think I would do so well seeing the wall, my wife asked me if I wanted to go when it started going on tour....I just could'nt.

Anyway, thanks for ther kind thoughts.

I would also like to say thank you to all who served in our great Military. I hope our troops don't come home from this war and be criticized the way our Vietnam vets were. Brian

Thany you very much to each one of you for your kind comments. I was medically discharged (Gulf War) after 13 years. It made my day to see these posts. Hopefully, I can help someone with what they are going thru.

Sincerely,
