I decided to post this here as there must be a lot of nutrition knowledgable people here :)

I am really confused! I thought apples are constipating because of the pectin in them. But in googling it, apple juice show up as relief for constipation.

Can someone clarify this for me please?

I'm always fighting constipation because of the pain meds (no codeine) I take.

Actually, same with bananas. I was eating them to help and my doctor told me they are bad for constipation! I think he might have said apples too, but I can't remember. (re the BRAT diet)

Thanks,
Cathy

BRAT

Bananas
Rice
Applesauce
Toast

Diet to eat following vomiting .... it's the diet to eat because it is easy to digest, however bananas and apples/applesauce can cause constipation.

If you need to ease constipation, try prunes, prune juice, increase fiber, psyllium, and if you just can't stand it any longer, get some Miralax....

HTH!

G'day Cathy,
I take one teaspoon of brown vinegar in a little water or juice once a day - sometimes twice a day if needed - which eases my constipation. I've read that vinegar stimulates the saliva glands and helps with the muscle action of the intestines and also that digestion starts with the saliva. Vinegar is pretty cheap as well and I've had success with it for a long while now.

Thanks Ladies! I had to know about the apples and bananas as I am so wanting to eat them, but I guess I'd better still lay off them for awhile longer.

After my husband "nagging" me for months to try Bran Buds, I finally gave them a try and they are helping very much. Plus I measure out how much water I need to drink each day to make sure I am staying hydrated too.

I don't know if I could tolerate the brown vinegar.
I did try lemon juice (in water) first thing in the day and it is way too strong for my stomach. (since I heard it is a good cleanser)

Bye for now, and thanks again!
Cathy
