Hey all :)

I go back to PM on Monday. 2 weeks ago he did increase my Oxy from 40 to 60mgs BID. I have to say that I think I may be at a dose that is working. However, I cannot seem to take 60 at one time without it making me very, very sleepy. So, I will take 40 in the morning, then 20 a few hours later. The same thing later in the evening. But, it just does not give me the same relief for some reason.

I am wondering what other drug would be closest to Oxy in your opinion? He mentioned a couple of options last week, but the only one I can recall is the Morphine. So, if he offers to change it, will that be something hard to do - tapering off one to start another? Or, is that how they even do it?

OH! One more thing. Since the first injection he gave me really did not do anything, he said the next step would be to do a deeper injection, therefore going under some sort of anesthesia. He did not mention if it would be done the same day as my appt or not, (it is done at a different facility as outpatient). So, I wonder if I need someone to take me to my appt Monday? I could just call in the am, but I would like to make arrangements now if there is a good chance you all think I will need a ride. (I think it is only "twilight anesthesia)

Thanks!

jena, yes you need someone to take you into the appointment for the deeper injection. I switched from Oxy to MSContin and it was a very good switch for me. I didn't have as much effects from the MSContin and yet it did a good job with my pain. Another option would be to go from BID to TID as the Oxy seems to work for 8 hours versus the advertised 12. That way your total intake could stay at 120mg but 40 mg three times a day may help with your pain better and keep you from being so sleepy.

Jena, how did the appointment go? Did you get the deeper injection or will that come at another appointment? Did you change meds? I hope you are doing fine tonight and hopeful that the treatment will bring about better pain relief.

I do the morphine sulfate 60 mgs 3 X a day w/ hydrocodone 10/325 3 X a day as needed ..and that works perfect...I had the sleepies for a couple of weeks and then it somewhat wore off...Im lucky enough with my insurance to ( and Hero Doc) to get the Provigil as well , to help with that

I use hydromorphone for break through pain, I take 2 x4mgs and I've noticed just the opposite, I seem to feel very tired when I'm in pain... in fact I was almost afraid that the medicine would make me fall asleep but I lay down about 30 min after a dose and I'm up and feeling ...well mostly normal, at least not run down.
