You seem to be such a wealth of information so I thought I would pick your brain. I have very bad headaches I get maybe once a week from a autonomic disorder I have. I have been on Many many meds, almost all pain meds and I do ok with Dilaudid but I either have a PICC line with a pump or Im injections and I really dont like doing that if I dont have to . I was really h appy with actiq and got 15 a month and that was plenty for me. However I have now had 5 teeth extracted and cant afford to loose anymore and never had this before the actiq. I then switched to fentora and it worked well but I break out in a rash everytime. I tried taking benedryl before hand and it still happens. Any ideas? i would love to have either the actiq or fentroa that dont come with the nasty side effects. Heard of this and any ideas? thanks so much Kristin

I suffer from headaches too. I just had to go to the ER to get toradol spelling wrong. any way this is the only thing that will take mine away. they have gave me Dilaudid it does not touch it. but the toradol will take it away with in 45 mins. I don't know why? but Dilaudid is every good for my pain but not my headaches. they gave it to me in the hospital after surgery's.
I hope you feel better

I started a thread about fentora a couple of days ago. I was recently prescribed fentora for when I get those headaches that nothing, nothing will touch.
There is a thread abit down that has some answers about fentora, but specific about what I asked.
Hopefully Pharmacist Steve will be along and answer...isn't it great to have a pharmacist on board?
take care...

I have heard of "teeth problems" with Actiq.. I would suspect that at a certain blood level of fentanyl you start to itch and it would appear that the Fentora is passing that level.
Of course dry mouth itself... from the use of a number of meds - including opiates... can cause this problem...
There is one option that never seems to be considered any more. Codiene/Morphine HT's... they dissolve under the tongue - like nitroglycerin tablets... there is little/no sugar/sweetners involved.. so teeth problems should be avoided .. they dissolve under the tongue .. so they get into the blood stream in minutes..
If you are using a ambulatory pump and a PICC line... to administer just an injectable opiate... you can easily to it via a sub-q cath .. like they do with a insulin pump... the onset will not be as quick as a IV ... but .. there is no IV line that has to be maintained.

Thank you so much for the info. That is a suggestion I will bring up. I have had a few picc lines and ened up in with a bad infection that bought me a week in the hospital and still ended up pulling even the 4th one. I do use IM meds but for some reason my body does not seem to like this much either. The meds work ok but I seem to get huge lumps, like its not absorbing into the muscle. Maybe the sub q would work better as it goes in slower. Thanks again I will keep this info for my appt next time with my neuro. I feel so bad because we keep trying things to find something that works but not having to keep a picc line if I dont have to especially after the infection last time.
thanks again kristin

In theory ... the body can absorb up to 2ml/hr via Sub-q cath... after that point you run the risk of "sub-q pooling"
