I was watching Oprah the other day as I was taking my daily rest period :D and Dr Oz was on talking about Rolfing. They had a demonstration of how it is done and what it does which is stretch and realign the fascia in your body. Has anyone tried this for Fibro and does it work? It looked and sounded like a good type of therapy. I have so much achiness all the frickin time that I am wondering if this could work to alleviate some of the pain and stiffness.

Any thoughts?

Alli,
I have never tried Rolfing but have heard it described. I think that it would be too vigorous a type of massage for someone with fibromyalgia. Before trying Rolfing, I would suggest that you find a massage therapist knowledgeable about fibromyalgia, and see how that feels to you.

I personally use Alexander Technique as it also helps my underlying orthopedic problem. Every evening, I am on the floor practicing that, and a few other exercises, that have kept me on my feet. A.T. is basically posture lessons and it did help all the tension in my neck and shoulders. Probably the most valuable result of learning A.T. was that I now know how to "fix" myself when that tension creeps up on me.

Teachers of A.T are not medical professionals and they do not "do" anything to you, other that teach you and your body, how to avoid muscle strain and misalignment that is the source of so much pain.

Yeah, you are probably right... Just stretching to clean my house made my back muscles hurt so much I could hardly straighten up afterward... and that was only after five minutes of work. :( I don't think that having someone vigorously strech me would feel very good. It looked like it would feel great if you had a normal body though!

I'll have to look into the other technique. It sounds gentler.

oooooh the stretch stuff would be too much for me too.....

I love a great massage though it loosens me up so much.....Especially someone who can do a deep tissue massage....However I love the pain from a massage, my husband often worries about how hard he is rubbing my back during a massage....He also often worries about how my back looks afterwards....But when the roles are reversed he does not do well with much pressure at all.....

So remember that you are going to be different and need to keep things at your thresholds......
