I just got a "pop-up" that filled my entire screen (not one of those little
boxes): Windows has detected, etc., etc. Well, d--ned if it didn't start
to download all by itself, before I could click it off! I cancelled the download
and got rid of the screen, but these people have a lot of nerve pulling s--t
like this!
To top it off, I don't even know if it was real or just one of those ads
that try to get you to sign up for a product that you don't really want.
(Or, that might be spyware/adware).
I already saw and commented on the thread about IE's update. But,
let's face it: Microsoft wouldn't have anything to worry about if these
@$$holes would stop creating viruses, worms, trojans, etc. and find
something useful to do with their lives!!
I wonder what would happen if some of these idiots found out they had
AIDS or some other incurable disease. It would be a different story then,
wouldn't it???
Okay, rant mode's off...for now!

It wasn't "real". Nothing real will automatically download itself after a pop up window takes up the entire screen.
As for the folks making viruses and such...they are actually doing a good thing in a way. They are exploiting the screw ups the programmers should've caught in the first place. This brings them to light and forces programmers to fix them.
I sure don't evny programmers.

So, the next time I get one of these fake downloads, do I click Cancel, or
just try to click the box off of the screen? It's getting so that you can't
tell what's an ad, what's a virus, and what's a genuine download.:(
Sounds to me like the whole Windows system needs a complete overhaul.
For the money they earn, programmers ought to be able to do better. JMO

Click cancel and then run all of your checkers (ad-aware, spybot, anti virus, edwido) and/or go run trend micros scan.

Thanks, ZS!:) One question, so I don't click on the wrong thing: I'm
looking at the icons right above this screen and there's something called
Anti-Spy (it looks like a yellow square with a target in the middle). Do
I click on that, too? See, this is all new to me-I didn't have this much
trouble with popups until we got Verizon.
Thanks again!:)

Anti-Spy isn't well known throughout the pc security circle, even though it's integrated into the yahoo toolbar.
So clicking it isn't a bad thing. It will run a scan to see if there are any tracking cookies on your puter and tell you which ones they are and should have an option to get rid of them.

I think in order to get rid of this problem you must do a number of things. I don't know what operating system you use but will use Windows XP for my explanation.
In order to keep the trojan or virus from replicating itself go to "Run" and type "msconfig" without the quotes. Ckick ok and then uncheck everything in the startup tab. You can start things manually when you need to.
Download AVG which is a free and will detect viruses and trojans.
If you don't have a router download Zone Alarm (free version).
Do a complete disc cleanup making sure to get rid of all cookies and temporary internet files.
Turn off "system restore" and run AVG. AVG will heal the problems or ask you to put the infected files into a vault so they can not affect your pc.
Restart your PC and turn "system restore" back on.
This should take care of most problems.
Other good programs to use to keep your machine free of spyware, malware etc are Adaware, Spybot and Spyblaster... ALL FREE!
Good Luck
