Hello everyone. My name is Barbara. I have a sister who is 50 and had a brain aneurysm operated on amost 8 years ago. Afterwards she had pressure on her brain and ended up in a coma for over 6 weeks. I ended up putting her into a nursing home after her health insurance ran out and she ended up on Social Security Medicaid. She has memories and is very aware of what is going on around here. Her main problems tend to be physical. Since the incident she has not been able to move her right hand and arm(just a little at her shoulder) and her right leg. She is a rather large woman...almost 6 foot and has gained weight. Sitting ariund watching TV all day will do that to you. Anyway to shorten this I have a few questions. Has anyway had or know anyone with the same experience? Is there any programs to help people with brain aneurysms that would pay for further therapy or even one of those electric wheelchairs or scooters? I know they have group homes for people with other probs. Has anyone ever heard of any for brain aneurysm survivors? I hate to see her stuck in the nursing home...she is always complaining because almost all the people there are older than her. Well I guess that is enough to start. Thank you.

Hi butterflydaisy
My husband had an aneurism 23 years ago and I have taken care of him for the last 22+ years at home. Sounds like your sister was never properly evaluated for therapy, equipment and independent living. I did a quick google search and came up the following sites which should be able to give you the information you need to help your sister. I also have a mother in law in a nursing home and I know how your sister feels. Some nursing homes are more active than others, they have activities, therapy, trips out to dinner and shopping...you might try to find one of those. Anyway here are the sites that I found for you to look at and maybe contact

good luck.

Thank you for the information Trekker. I willsearch through it and see if there is anything that can help my sister. I really hate to see her stuck in the nursing home all her life. I would love to bring her home but we just do not have the room...and I know I would definitely need outside help.
I commend you Trekker. I am sure you have your hands full taking care of your hubby. But then it is a labor of love.
Thanks again!
