Anyone having trouble with insurance now that this is available over the counter? We used to pay $10 bucks for a month worth. Now that same dosage from the pharmacy is $44.50 because insurance no longer covers it. The store bottles are small and last about seven days but they are 6 bucks a pieces. That’s $24 a month. Not major but on our budget! We are going to look at Sams this weekend for maybe the larger sizes or bundle packs. Just curious if anyone else is experiencing this.

Haven't had a problem yet, but Hospice orders Tyler's meds. I have noticed the much smaller bottles that we get. It is the only med that helps keep Tyler regular, so it is very important for us to be able to get it.

Chris
Would it help any if the doc wrote medically necessary? I would also contact ins company and see if something can be done.

I've noticed the commericals on tv saying it's now available without a prescription, luckily we're military and we're still able to get the large bottles for free from the military clinics.

I too am on Miralax, and it was just upped to 17MG twice daily. my PCP just gave me a script for what I thought was actual Miralax, but it was a generic of some kind. And the Bottle is EXTREMELY smaller compared to the Miralax Bottle.
The bottles in the store aren't going to cut it for me either. I don't know what else to do for it, as it keep me regular also.
With my insurence, they covered it, but then again it wasn't the actual Miralax either.

Oh, great, I have two kids taking this stuff, Kadee more so than Dustin. Dustin only seems to need it every once in awhile but Kadee she has to have it every day.
I imagine that the insurance companies helped push that through, since so many children seem to be on Mirlax these days. They all probably sat around a big desk & figured up just how much money they'd save by not having to pay for scripts for the stuff.
So how much is the stuff a bottle ? How long's it supposed to last?
Just what we all need another thing to have to pay for every month.

Hey all,
I think that, because it's now OTC, they can charge anything they want and can make the size of the product provided, whatever the market will bear.
Once these things go OTC, it's all about $. Same thing happened with Claritin. I always hope that in the meanwhile, there's been a new product out for prescribing so that I can continue to pay my copays and not market price.
These companies are in existance to make money and if they end up helping mankind, well that's a bonus. (All my opinion only folks.) Our price for living in a free market (so to speak!)
Does that make sense? My cousin, who is in pharma. sales, explained it to me that way, at least.
Hugs to us all,
Annie B.

Well we havent made it to Sam's yet, but I did see online that a 30 day supply bottle does exist out there. I saw a price of around $24.99 looking online. It looked like there are three versions - 7 day - 14 day and 30 day. Once I was on Allegra that went OTC and our insurance then just forced a generic version on me. Both our older kids are are the generic but this was still not covered.
Wishfully thinking, I called in two of the three 527g bottles we need here per month only to get to the pharmacy and find out they wanted 42.00 each (generic)!! We had been paying 10.00 each.
Thankfully our favorite pharmacist was there (yes, sad to say, we have a favorite pharmacist...LOL) and she ran over to get us the OTC bottles, knowing they'd be less expensive. They were 238g bottles and cost 12.00, so 24.00 for 51g's less than the generic version....better, but still. Our pharmacist was frustrated that we couldn't get coverage and she knows better than most how much money we spend on our prescription copays per month (570.00/month) and was determined she would find a better price. When all was said and done, she simply decided she would authorize us to get the generic for 24.00 each, so we'll pay 72.00/ month, up from 30.00/month, but less than what they wanted of 126.00 for the generic, and less than what they want for the OTC stuff which would have been 87.00/month.
Just wondering where this additional 42.00 each month is going to come from....UGH. This is SO frustrating!!
BIG hugs,
Kass, proud mom to Chance(13-Mito), Madison(10-Mito), and Abigail(9-Mito)
Plum Smart Juice by Sunsweet actually works faster and more consistently than Miralax for my son. It has nutritional value and he like the taste.
