After an 11mo. wait for a speech assessment, I was actually surprised to find my son needed more intervention than I realized! He was 4 this weekend.
Apparently, people find it difficult to understand him because he is not using his jaw, tongue or lips properly to form the sounds(no stability) She not only plans to do her own therapy with him, she put him on a waitlist (another year or more) for a specialized clinic.
When she asked if it was okay with me, I commented that she was the therapist who could judge appropriately how severe this was and what kind of intervention was required to solve the issues. While I've usually heard the line, "yes, there are some delays but nothing requiring too much intervention, let's wait and see" , this time, with this son, the therapist felt he'd need a year with her and then to continue with this specialized clinic without a doubt for more intensive therapy following that.
anyway, I'm glad she's helping.
He's also going for hearing in a couple weeks. hope there are no surprises there!
