Okay, here I go again and I will try not to be graphic. But quite frankly my backside, lumbar, whatever...is hurting like crazy. And, yes, Jolene, I am sitting on a donut LOL! My neck twinges are nothing compared to this. Anyway, can someone tell me where the pain refers to regarding L5/S1 and does anyone have experiences with coccydynia. I only ask because I am trying to figure this out! My MRI basically says there is nothing wrong with the lower sacral area so I don't get it. So, can the L5/S1 refer pain, well, right where it counts...near the tailbone? All I know for sure and from the MRI report is that there is facet degeneration on both the left and right. And that is all it says. Anyway, does anyone know of any exercises I could try while I am recovering from my neck surgery? I don't want to do any exercises that are too tough...just something mild so I don't aggravate my neck. The only thing I have been doing is putting ice and heat back there and trying to walk as much as I can and/or lie down. Oh, and this donut thing is okay. But the inflated part presseds up against the back of my legs and aggravates the sciatica stuff. I know I am not explaing this very well but I am fairly new to the lumbar stuff. Oh, and has anyone tried wearing an SI belt. The PT I had had me get one of those to hold things in place I guess. But it cuts across my bladder no matter what I do. Thanks!

Hi there,
I've tried figuring stuff out like that too, & did a Yahoo or Google search of "dermatomes". It tells which areas of the spine, in general, give neurological stimulation to what part of the body. At least that's how I understand it.
I hope that helps.

Hi Ryonka,
Thanks! Yes, I have looked at the dermatome maps. My problem has been that I can't find an extremely detailed one. If someone could find one that is detailed, I would appreciate it. I did get an ESI several months ago that helped for about 2-3 weeks. Then I received a Sacroilliac injection that did nothing. So, the next thing was to have a facet or piriformis injection. But I couldn't do it because the cervical surgery came up too quick. I have an appointment with my PM in November. If my NS approves it, then I am going with an injection. I am not sure which type he really wants to do yet because at the same time I had a new MRI done and he hasn't seen it yet. I know he has the report but again, I have to wait until November. He did mention doing an RF months and months ago as something I could try. But he needs to find the pain generator first. I am not so sure I would go with an RF anyway if the injection gives me significant relief for awhile. Then again, I will try to keep an open mind about it.

I have told you numerous times that YES!!! Pain from L5-S1 can hit you there. Dang, do I have to get a skillet and whack you with it? Hey, then your butt wouldn't hurt... Hehehehe :D :p
