J&K Mom

We are home. I felt SOOO trapped without my internet in that hospital!!!
Thursday morning Katie woke up with a 106.3 degree fever. I gave her tylenol and motrin and cool baths all day. The meds would only bring it down to 104 and the bath would get it down to 101, but with in 20 minutes it was right back up.
When Mike got home Thursday, Katie's temp went back up to 105.9 or something like that. So we took her to the ER. I had given her tylenol around 5 and we got to the ER at 6:30 and her temp was still almost 104.
They tried to get an IV started in the ER, they poked and poked and poked and blew her arm, then went to her foot.... well, they poked and poked and finally got it in but it was so slow that the blood they drew from it clotted and then wouldn't flush. So they went to her other arm and poked for ever. I was just opening my mouth to tell them they were done, when they got it.
So they drew what they needed and then put her on fluids and then did a bolus whatever the heck that was, and then back to regular IV.
The only thing that showed in her lab was high lactic acid and slightly high wbc. They admitted her to try to get her temp down, run more labs, and keep her hydrated.
Our geneticist was out of town but was called. She said to keep us there because with her being so sick, it's the perfect time to do all the labs needed for MMA because kids with mma, their levels show it when they are sick (ie- her lactic acid was high.. the mma level is a send out that will take a while to get back) Also dehydration is a no-no for MMA.
All the cultures came back normal, so they don't know what was causing the fever, they said probably a virus.... isn't that always the case?
When they pulled the IV, a couple minutes later, I noticed her hand and lower arm was swelling. It swolled up horrible! It still is. They let us go home and said it should go down, but it hasn't yet (as of last night, she's not awake yet). They said something about delayed infilltration. You can see the difference in size:

The genetics called before we left and said that her plane had just landed and she could be at the hospital in 3 hours, but since we were already in the process of being discharged, she said to go on home and call her today. She wants to go ahead and put her on the special MMA formula instead of the Enfamil she is on. I think she is going to want us to come in sooner than our appointment in May (that's the one I had to reschedule from last week)
Katie was happy to be home and able to crawl around and play. She was pretty bad off Thursday night and most of Friday. Her temp pretty much stayed 102 or so. Saturday it would go from 100 to 101, then last night it was normal to 100.
