I was wondering if I could see a different doctor of my own choosing if I pay for it or if my own insurance does. I broke my ankle and twisted my knee last year. Worker's compensation had my broken ankle fixed, and I got a brace and therapy for my knee. I've had knee problems since then. My treating doctor under worker's compensation had an arhtrogram done on my knee, and I guess there was a torn ACL or some kind of tendon torn still. They send me to an IME, and the IME said there was no tear, even though it showed up on the arthrogram. Both my primary care physician and my WC physician suggested that I see my own specialist since the IME closed my case, saying there was no further injury. Can I go see a doctor on my own, and then use their opinion to re-open my case? Would that be legal?
I haven't found an attorney in Phoenix yet. The ones that have returned my calls suggest that this might be too much work for too little return, since I am not asking for money, just medical care.
Thanks for your advice,
Joe
