Wow! First of all, call me ignorant, but I had no idea addicts were doing all of that with Oxy!
I AM on it and did sign. I suppose I can appreciate the DEA's position, but I would think that they could find a way to regulate WHO the doc's are giving the Oxy to. I know that would be hard. They should also be keeping an eye on doc's like Anna Nicole Psyciatrist. I mean, that woman was OBVIOUSLY over medicating someone, and probably many others, ans was clearly abusing her position.
I wonder how those bad ones can automatically be picked up on? I know that sounds silly, but maybe there could be some automated system when prescribing? lol. I don't know! I am just grasping at straws :(

The way I see it is the drug addicts will get it one way or another. Hey people in jail get their dope. They need to look on the street not at Drs.

The only part of the DEA's budget for education is the teach kids that "DRUGS ARE BAD"... a DEA agent will tell you .. their charge is not to prevent diversion but to ARREST those who will divert.
It is harder to get any cellular or utility service than to get a doc to write a Rx for a opiate or controlled substance.
The DEA would seem to believe that one bogus patient within a practice is worthy of shutting the whole practice down. In reality, expecting a doc to have a totally pristine practice (no bogus patients) is totally unrealistic.
Most docs would rather play it safe and "token dose" chronic pain patients than put out the effort to isolate the bogus patients up front.

I talked to my Purdue Pharma. rep the other day. Oxycontin is not going away. I think that is a bogus website. Also, if you are on Oxycontin, Purdue is giving away $50 vouchers towards copays for their name brand product through the end of the year. An obvious effort to make the remaining generic manufacturers disappear sooner.

This is many many years old. Skip Baker closed his site and stopped all his work for Chronic Pain several years ago due to death threats against himself and his family. It is a sad day when those that try to help find themselves victims of death threats. I wish I could remember when this happened, but you all know what happens to our memories as CPr's:o

Thanks Shotspine. I knew I heard that name before. Why would anyone make a bogus site like that? Makes me wonder if someone is gathering names of CP sufferers for some reason. Suspicious, if you ask me.
Pain free days,
Pete

Sorry to hear it is not still going as we need advocates for those of us that need it. yes those on the streets that are abusing drugs will always find a way to get them while those of us that obey the laws will be hurt by DEA shutting down a practice if only one bad patient is there.

I am sure one day I will be on it again and I hope it is still around if and when I need it. I dont understand why a drug is pulled off the market after only a few hundred deaths while tylonal and aleve are still sold OTC when they kill tens of thousands each year. I am on a long acting pain med now but it is not OxyContin. I would hate to see that drug being pulled. It stops my pain but I would have a very hard time coming off of it also since i have been on it so long. Brian

coming into doctors offices and watching what meds they prescribe. Doctors have earned the right to help their patients when they need to. Too many people suffer now because the DEA has scared doctors from doing their jobs. The DEA should enforce the illegal drugs laws and stop messing with sick folks. If someone wants to sell their drugs they got from the doctor then so be it. I am sure they will be caught soon enough if the doctor is taking urine or blood test to see if they have the drugs in their system. If a doctor is selling drugs in his office that will be found out also through word of mouth. The DEA should leave doctors alone to practice medicine.

Brian,
Your last two posts say it all.
It is a dirty shame that the gov't allows the DEA to operate like this.
The DEA can't stop drugs coming in from outside the US. So they have made a job out of scaring legit Doctors from practicing medicine the way it should be.
Easy work for the DEA.
Who is hurt by this; the pain patient, not the drug abusers/dealers! :(
My best to all,
Jim

I am very curious to see just how old this petition really is. It was no listed as one of the last 25, so I sent a comment asking them to forward me the actual petition showing me when it was dated. I hope they are not sending petitions out that are as old as you guys are saying. That is just not right. :(
Thanks for pointing that out guys!
Deb - no harm done :)

Deb: THanks for bringing the website to our attention.
After reading the posts here, I will have local law enforcement look into it and see if the DEA is looking at it. It looks like a great way to gather names and find out where people are who may be taking Oxycontin. It is like a marketing list for thieves.
1. Have Oxycontin users sign up
2. Get their personal info (address).
3. Rob their house when they ar eat work.

OH NO! I hope not Doc. I am pretty sure I signed it, but think it was before I made a major move to another state (in Oct 2001). I don't even remember if I was taking Oxy at the time, since I took it for a very short time. I'll be watching this thread for any new info.

The jail industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in the US, why would they wish to stop growth by telling kids things that can be believed.
A local county had a Do Meth and Your Dead program or something similar, the percentage of kids who are prescribed amphetimines makes them look stooooopid and will not help ... some truth could though but when a county gets $35.00 a day to house people ... why should they.

If anyone knows how to dig up old cache.....Skip Baker's site was www.asappain (http://www.asappain). I still have it in my favorites. I tried all the links I had saved under his name but they all came up with nothing. Skip was a very active and loud advocate for the use of opiods for pain. He had a lot to offer. He helped many people in serious pain find their way thru the medical maze to find help until the DEA bulldozed yet another person trying to get the TRUTH out. He was very careful who could even get into his website. I can't remember specifics, but you had to fill out a fairly detailed questionnare. This petition popping up had to be pulled out of someone's old cache....it does make one wonder why.
I wish I could remember more because he was really a hero for our cause. It was sad to see he had to disappear like he did........If any of you old timers remember stories about him, or were helped by him, it would be nice to reminisce a bit. I too am curious as to timelines....the petition, the website closing.

What did happen to Skip? I saw his name there and thought he may have re-surfaced?
Just curious as that was a few years ago.

Krashleen...
I don't know what happened to Skip but I sure hope he is somewhere safe and enjoying his life and family. The last I heard was that he had been getting threats for quite awhile. He ignored them until it became too serious and all websites and reference to him just disappeared.
He's probably advocating for someone somewhere
