Any of you whose kids have both ACM and autism notice really early signs of something wrong with them? I saw some bizarre behaviors in my son from the time he was a tiny infant, not more than a couple of months old. He couldn't stand to be held. :( I remember begging his ped to help me figure out what was wrong, and of course, I was just a nervous mom. :(
Anyone else??

Lizard,
Although my son has Chiari and Tourette's and not Autism I did noticed early signs of something being wrong with him. He never cried and never indicated he wanted to be held although when I picked him up he was ok with it. He was always just so content, although it was like having a perfect baby I always felt something wasn't quite right. When he was between 1 1/2 and 2 years old he started to do odd things like bang his head on the floor, he was obsessed with lining items up in neat straight lines, and he could not stand having anything on his hands (he could eat an ice cream cone and not get a drop on his hand). I had people tell me he might be autistic but said he was too young to be sure. At the age of 3 those behaviors stopped. And at age 7 he started to develop both verbal and motor tics (Tourette's). Hope this helped.

Pringlec, it would be interesting to know if your son was decompressed and at what age. I have heard from a number of parents that their child had autistic symptoms that went away post operatively.. especially the very young ones.

Isn't this amazing? I have written to Mary Beth (his mom) a couple of times, and we're gonna talk one of these days. She seems like a cool lady. :)
