I think this is a new page on one of my favorite sites! Hmmm....the link doesn't seem to work... I actually received this page in an email newsletter from the site.

Who should trial a gluten free casein free diet? (http://www.nutritional-healing.com.au/content/articles-content.php?heading=Who%20should%20trial%20a%20glu ten/casein%20free%20diet?)

Here is a link to other articles.

There is a large body of research and clinical experience suggesting that subgroups of the following populations are sensitive to gluten & casein and experience improvements in health from gluten/casein avoidance.

Aggression
Alcoholism
ALS
Anxiety
Autism/ADHD
Bulimia Nervosa
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Fibromyalgia
Dementia under 70
Depression
Dermatitis herpetiformis
Diabetes mellitus (I & II)
Diverticulitis
Down Syndrome
Epilepsy
Gait disturbances
Headaches
Infertility
Inflammatory bowel syndrome
Intestinal lymphoma
Irritable bowel syndrome
Maldigestion/malabsorption
Osteoporosis
Panic attacks
Pernicious anaemia
Psoriasis
Rheumatoid arthritis
Schizophrenia
Sjogren’s syndrome
Stomach ulcers
Systemic lupus
Thyroid problemsSensitivity to gluten and casein, two dietary proteins, can sometimes take a more extended time period to become evident than a standard elimination diet allows. Everyone with one or more of these medical conditions should trial a 100 % gluten free casein free (GFCF) diet for 30 days. To attempt this diet you must carefully read the ingredients list of every food you eat and truly do it 100% to see real results. No lab test negates the need for this trial. Most people that react negatively to gluten do not have true celiac disease (and therefore test negative to celiac blood tests), but rather another form of gluten sensitivity.

The Gluten Challenge usually means that you eat a huge amount of gluten for weeks to cause enough damage so the doctor can see it.

Maybe there is a better Gluten Challenge - eliminate gluten and see how much better you feel. Read about it here: http://www.glutenchallenge.com/

Each time I saw this post, I was going to comment, and just didn't have the time. Well, I see it now...

I'm starting to think that anyone (really thinking infants) with a brain injury should also try GFCF. I haven't decided if brain injury (whether pre-natal, or after birth) also tends to injure the blood brain barrier, or if it activates those DQX genes. Sorry, strictly "mother's instinct," no research to back it up.

There are a lot of threads over on MDC today in the Allergy forum and somewhere in a sub of the parenting forum that could use that link! So many people want to ignor food may be the culprit and that elimination diet could drastically alter their child's personality for the better (or their own).

I'm so for trying diet before anything else, it's hard sometimes, but very worth the effort when results are acheived.
