I have had fibro a long time, and have started having recurrent shin splints. The drs. said at first it was fibro, and now it is tendonitis. It is bi-lateral. It started after walking in a heated pool. It is the second time I have had it; it always starts after I try to excercise - but the funny thing is that between times, I have been able to walk distances just fine. It seemed to pop up when I stretched. Also when I am active, my RLS acts up and Requip won't work at all. I have had this for six weeks and still can't walk far. This is worse than fibro because when you can't walk you can't do anything. Has anyone ever encountered this? It feels like my tendons are on fire. It has always hurt to rub my legs, but this is def. my tendons. Lyrica doesn't help.

Have you had bone density tested?
I might ask about that if not....

Perhaps it was the walking in the pool without proper support that caused the problem? Certainly, things like plantar fasciitis occur when walking barefoot or in sandals, slippers, etc. The arch and heel support are critical.
I have always had great difficulty with muscle, tendon and ligament injuries and even wore a basketball brace on my left ankle for many, many years until it aggravated the bone spurs on my instep. Doctors always indicated that I had a tendency for such injuries...their way of avoiding the whole fibromyalgia discussion. However, that was fine with me.
Has your doctor suggested an antiinflammatory? Aspirin, ibuprofen, etc. They help me when I have these types of problems. Cheerio.

Hi Clarpa,
Do your symptoms get worse when you are more active? Do they seem better when you first wake up? Do they get worse at the end of the day? Do you have any other problems, like weakness in your neck, shoulders, arms, legs or facial muscles? Do you ever have trouble swallowing or chewing? Do you feel short of breath? Do your symptoms come and go in severity depending on the amount of activity you do? You may have an autoimmune disease that is treatable.
