Sorry, I'm kind of panicking I've just found out I'm Hydro (aquired) after shunt(s) were put in for leaks

today I started to get dizzy and felt that I can't keepmy eyes strait my DD says they look normal I called my NS that said I could push on the resivior to see if it refilled, it did, I don't remember what happened when it blocked when I was diagnosed, what should I be looking for symptom wise? I hope maybe I have a touch of the flu because I also feel a little sick to my stomache. can someone reasure me or let me know what they think... my resivior did refill very slowly but it did refill:)

I'm sorry you feel so bad, i have very little experience in this area, but I beleive you should go see your doctor in person instead of the phone if for no other reason than peace of mind about how you are feeling. Hope you are feeling better soon. Aggie

Hi dagaz...sorry to hear you're feeling rough. I've had the same as you, and panicking is my biggest problem! Try to stay calm, but if I were you I'd go to your doctor, or better still to the ER to get some checks done if you're still feeling bad. It's far better to be safe than sorry in these cases. If you're feeling sick that could indicate flu or a slightly high pressure. Don't worry about making a fuss either..hospitals are used to us shunt-ees turning up with strange symptoms! Even if it IS just the flu, your peace of mind will be worth the trip. Good luck..keep us posted!

problems focusing is a definite sign to get a scan to check shunt function - when mine failed recently the deciding factor for me was that I couldn't see properly (right pupil had stopped reacting so I couldn't scan, follow a finger etc). Things like that always send a chill down my spine though :( I sympathise (hugs) I hope everything is OK and/or one way or another you can get peace of mind ASAP.

Thanks so much because I am so new at actually having hydrocephalus now I don't know what the symptoms really are,
when the shunt is blocked for hydro reasons. BecausePrior to having aquired hydrocephalus my shunt was was only in to take pressure off of my csf leak sitenow I am finding it so much more scary :( . Those of you that have lived with it for so long and have children with it I don't know howyou have done it for years! You all must be so brave. I am trying to relax today because I have some MS tremmors in my hands, :( I think the stress from not knowing if my shunt was blocked yesterday got something going with my MS so I Must find a way to wind down I appreciate your help so much now I know a little what to look for.

Thanks again

Dagaz

Dagaz...wondering how you were doing. Sorry to hear you've become shunt dependant. Please don't pump your shunt...if you have a clog you can make it worse by drawing more matter in.

Have you ever read any of Mokoris papers? He's written some interesting stuff in regards to csf leaks causing brain sag...aka Chiari...especially if a small posterior fossa is present...seems to be a common anamoloy.

I accessed his papers from the AJNR...American Journal of Neurological Research.
