Due to some stomach ulcers and GERD my GI doesn't want to to use anything but tylenol. I always thought that Vicoden included ancidemedphine(sp) but instead the doctor said no not always, check with your pharmacist.
Does this sound right to you?

To the best of my knowledge all the Vicoden have Tylenol in them .. they did bring out a VICOPROFEN which contains Motrin instead of Tylenol .. he might be referencing this believing that it is in the "Vicodin family"

Lisa,

He is probably saying stick with the Tylenol only because the opoids, anti-inflammatories can really wreak havoc on your stomach; especially long term. I was told my gastritis was caused by long term use of the meds; not a high dosage...just a long time. So, since you have ulcers I can understand why he wants you to stay away from the much stronger meds. I know this sucks when you are in pain. :(

Kathi I thouht the same thing when he told me that. He said no I don't want you to stop taking the vicoden, just make sure it has the tylenol in in. The problem is I have no clue what the diffference is in them, such as how they look.:(

Lisa,

Vicodin has more Tylenol in it than say Norco. But look at your bottle of Vicodin. It MIGHT say something like 5/500. That would mean there is 5 of the opoid and 500 mg of Tylenol. So, what does your bottle say? The Norco I take is 5/325 as an example. It has less Tylenol. Personally, I prefer the Vicodin. :) And I term the Norco a "Baby Vicodin".

PharmacistSteve could explain better. I have just always been given the Vicodin 5/500.

Lisa, the Vicodin you have has 750 mg of Tylenol in it, so you are getting the Tylenol, but also the Hydro. Sounds like he ONLY wants you to take Tylonel and not the Hydro...

Let me clarify, sorry I wasn't clear. I told him I was taking Vicoden and he said fine just make sure it has no acedmedipnine(sp) in it.
I said okay, but how do I know for sure and the doctor told me to ask my pharmacist.

Lisa,

Pardon me but I am just a wee bit confused.

Does he say stick with the Tylenol or not? In two different posts you say the opposite. So I am confused now LOL! Just messing with ya.

I THINK he is saying continue with the Vicodin just make sure there IS Tylenol in it.

Or is the bottom line JUST the Tylenol? :) Or is he saying straight Hydrocodone? That would seem odd to me as I would THINK the Tylenol would be easier on your stomach. Then again, your liver was messed up or I should say the enzymes were high right? So, I am just as confused as you are. ;)

Okay, I am now in a state of total confusion so I see where you are coming from!

She did say he wanted her on Tylenol only "doesn't want to to use anything but tylenol"

The she said "just make sure it has no acedmedipnine(sp) in it"

Therefore causing the confusion. Lisa, can you clarify which is correct?

that I've been so confusing. Okay when I went to the GI guy he says I never want you to have acedamedfine(sp) ever again. I said okay so I should stop taking my Vicoden. He said no just make sure the pharmacist knows you need the brand without acedamedefine(sp). Then he said you need the Vicoden with tylenol in it and if you ever get a fever make sure tylenol is what you take. So he cleared me for Vicoden he just wanted to make sure the pharmacist knew it had to be the brand with tylenol. Great I'm good to go right? Wrong!!!! At least according to my rhemy today. Please read my new thread on Oxycodone IR.

Ok, so he first said NO Tylenol, then said OK to it...

That can be the only determination because Tylenol IS acetametaphin...

That's what's making this so confusing he said tylenol is okay but acetamtaphin isn't.
This was the GI doctor telling me this!!!!! Of course I didn't really know!!!!!

You might need a new GI! lol. Sorry, not funny, I know. But still... Or, maybe you misunderstood him?? Why don't you call and leave him a message asking him what he means...
