Waves' Depression Management Guidelines
( with point system )
MUST DO:
there are no must do items. none. Verboten.
anyone who say you "you must do" something get 1000 penalty points.
items that you might think should be in this section have been moved indiscriminately to the SUGGESTION BOX (at end of post).
HOW TO:
in the event you do anything, these notes help reduce the strain required to do so, and/or the reduce the disagreeable consequences and environmental impact.
POINT SYSTEM
what we can do is rewarded by points.
what we cannot do is also rewarded by points. :D
And now, for the guidelines...
Eating:
anything you eat is reasonable and good for you.
eating is an achievement. (50 points)
Overeating:
this is allowed but you don't get points for it.
Dirtying:
there are no points for dirtying clean items, except clothes, unless you observe the trade-off rule
trade-off rule: use a cup, wash a cup. it doesn't matter if you have a stack of dirty dishes... this rule only requires you wash the number of items you use. 100 points.
reuse-rule: use this if the trade-off rule is too hard: reuse dirty items (eg. drink coffee multiple times in same cup without washing.) 100 points.
Clothing: for any item of clean clothing put on, whether you had a shower or not, you get 50 points.
Cooking (includes use of clean pots and pans)
50 points for cooking anything.
50 points for each pot/pan dirtied (heh)
50 points for eating what you cook
50 points for saving leftovers
50 points for tossing leftovers immediately
note, this means you get more points by doing things in parts. and you are going to do that. because you are depressed and doing whole things is just too much. but see, the point system is on your side!)
Cleaning:
Any single item or place which gets cleaned is 50 points.
Any single item or place which becomes cleaner by intention or coincidental activity is 50 points.
Tidying up:
Any single thing which gets moved from where it is, to where it "belongs" is 50 points.
Any single thing which gets moved from where it is to a more out-of-the-way place is 50 points.
Any single item which gets moved from where it is to a place which is even slightly closer to one of the above two destinations; if the location is also more "out-of-the-way" you get double, i.e. 100 points).
penalties for doing the reverse: none - depressed individuals are exempt of penalty points and this is my game, my rules so there, if you don't like it, SUE ME! :D
SUGGESTION BOX:
Mail - retrieval of incoming, deposting of outgoing
Garbage removal
Grocery store trip
Pharmacy trip
returning phone calls
Note, these are things which help preserve your relationship to the world at large, or which significantly improve your environment, and therefore will "feed back" into your state of mind. However they are high-difficulty tasks for the depressed, so enormous credit is due whomever engages in any of these, to any extent: wholly, partly, badly, or not at all.
These tasks become broachable when a small amount of energy appears, or social phobia is lessened , or when feeling sooo numb that you can zombie your way like a horse with blinders, through things that would otherwise be painful.
if you find yourself contemplating the suggestion box you have acquired a *comparatively* moderate level of functioning... take a moment to savor the :) contentment :) . then, realize that it may be transitory! basically, it's a miracle if you got here - run with the ball and don't look back!!!
e.g., if you have the impetus to take out your mail, but you only have 3 out of 25 bill payments "ready" that's ok: mail the 3. screw the others, and give yourself 100 points: 50 for the mailing, plus 50 for not mailing the rest!
BONUS POINTS
1000 points for reading this far.
1000 points for doing any of the above.
1000 points for doing any of the following...
laugh, snicker, scoff, or discard.
:D
