I make this very yummy cake every Easter. Its always a family "Lo Cal" favorite.
Its easy to make, transports and stays good looking even after being cut.
I use 3 Angel Food cake mixes...follow directions on the box.
Keep in 3 seperate bowls.
Add one and half packet of each flavor to one bowl, mix well.
Plop piles of different colors to layer the flavors making it a very colorful cake into only 2 bowls.
When you add the kool-aid it tends to make less volume of mix...so that's why I make only 2 (they're very full cakes).
No need to use frosting, but Cool-whip taste yummy along with it.
Use cocanut colored w/ green food coloring. Put a small pkg of cocanut in a bowl, add few drops green food color. Mix well.
These cakes taste so tangy and tart....everyone loves them. If you love sour candies...this is the cake for you!
Perfect for Easter or Spring Pot Lucks.
You can decorate w/ marsh-mellow Peeps or little sugar decorations (cake supply stores carry different variaties)
I use unsweetened KooL-Aid....Lime, Orange, Cherry or Rasperry flavors. Long as you have green, orange and "red".
You can use different flavors for what ever colors you'd like.
For the 4th of July, I use cherry and Blue berry flavors, leaving one bowl white.
Hope you enjoy making these cakes...PM me if you have any questions or need clarification on directions.
I promise...these are easy to make and will be a big hit.
Everyone will beg for the recipe...tell them its a huge secret! LOL
Enjoy! cheryl
The white cake in 2nd photo is the same version of angel food mix but only used Lemon flavored Kool-aid....use lemon merangue as filling and Cool-Whip for frosting. Very light and fluffy cake...mmmmm! Will be another hit for sure, I promise!
You can use whipped cream for your frosting....but you'll need to stablize it with geletin...add 1 pkg unflavored gelatin to 2 tlbs hot water....let it disolve...then as you're finish whipping your cream...add the gelatin mixture by drizzling it as your finish whipping. Be careful not to overwhip.
You can also add Chocolet to the cake mix....to make choc mouse cake....add unsweetened choc powder to your sweetened whipping cream mixture including the gelatin mixture for stablizing. If you don't stablize your whipped cream it will become runny and ruin your cake as it starts sluffing off the cake.
Have fun....and don't forget to not count the calories...especially if you add the whpped topping.
