Hey, John. :) Could we please sticky this as we did on the "old" BT?
Thanks for your consideration!

Okay, folks...Got another book for you. :) Someone asked on another forum about litigation re shunts and valves, and I stumbled across this while I was looking for info: http://newton.nap.edu/books/0309096316/html The site allows you to purchase pdf files of individual chapters for $4.30, and I was gonna do that, but then I saw a lot more info about shunts and hydro in other chapters. There is also a lot about the VNS and other things I should know about to do what I do here, so I bought it from Barnes and Noble after shopping around online to compare prices. It came today, and I'm gonna check it out tonight. :)

I wanna thank Mod # 3 for stickying this thread for us. :) So...who else has some books to mention?? I also suggest, as I believe I did on BT 2, A Stone In My Shoe by Caroline McDonald, her story of life with a brain tumor and hydro. Check it out! :)

Hi Liz! Does the book cover people outside the US who may have a story to tell?
Love,
Penny.

I don't see why we can't include some of you. :) Maybe somewhere in there, we should include info on med care outside the US. Whatcha think? :)

Cazzie,
I see nobody replied to your ? re the book.
The idea is that members of this forum are going to write a book on what you need to know about Hydrocephalus.
I have no idea how long it will take and I have not volunteered to help as I don't feel up to it.
If you want to know more, post in the thread:
"so...are we still together on the book?"
However there is an excellent book available:
Hydrocephalus: A Guide for Patients, Families & Friends"
By Chuck Toporek, Kellie Robinson, published in1999

PS I have heard that they are working on a new edition

I had heard that some time ago, too (a couple of years ago, at least), but now they're divorced, so I don't see it happening. :( I'll certainly let y'all know if I hear otherwise.

Sounds good (sorry I didn't reply until now). I may have to get permission to include it so it could be a while but I will try and write something when I can.

This seems to be a great idea for all of us to increase awareness and inform us on what to do in a certain situation, specially when we are feeling hydrocephalus symptoms (http://www.gabrielslife.org/featured_stories/).. thanks for keeping us informed.

Hi All
I was in Big W a few days ago, and started to read this book while I was standing in the aisle. I had to keep reading, and ended up standing there for almost half an hour reading! It is about a fellow who suffers a brain tumour, and then contracts menigitis and develops hydro while in hospital after the brain tumour is removed. You can probably see why this story hit a chord with me!
The book is written by his wife Tania Hayes. They are from Wollongong (on the coast, south of Sydney), and the book is published by Mira Books, Chatswood, N.S.W.
Look it up if you can!
Nat.
P.S. I finished it in a day!
