I just got a cool-lookin' book, Safe Medical Devices for Children. There is a whole chapter on shunts, incidentally, and the publisher,
http://newton.nap.edu/books/0309096316/html/347.html allows for purchase of .pdf files of individual chapters for $4.30, but after scoping it out, I figured the cost of the book was worth it. (It was about $62 from B + N, who had the cheapest price.) There is a lot more on shunts and hydro in other chapters, as well as info on other devices, such as cochlear implants and the VNS.
