I'm posting the pictures of Rags for Buttons.
Isn't he soooo cute!
Don't know who's the lucky one....Buttons who resuced him after he was nearly killed by being attacked by a pit bull...or Buttons, the mama who adopted him a year ago.
Not many people adopt big and very active doggies.
Anyway...Rags has been a godsend to his owner, Buttons.
They live out in the country...(take a look at their awesome setting), where they take long walks in the woods looking at buttercups and deer along the way. Lucky dog!
He has his own leather couch...he shares it with Pepper, the little white doggie.
You can tell he's sooo playful! Like a big goofy!
But don't any stranger come around with ill intentions...they'd go running with a chunk missing out's their behind! Talk about great security system!
Blessings, cheryl

wow beautiful grounds to romp and play in and a cute white companion dog. i know rags is suppose to have gained weight and i know my dog has put on a lot more here lately. partly because he is home to eat regularly and doesn't seem to want to go outside unless i go too. and since i'm having awful hip and some back pain that is not been happening. now that the weather is warmer i'm happy to say i will give the golf cart thing a try again. the thing is i suspect meanness will probably want to ride also. whatever. if he's happy without much exercise well i can't complain much as we are both in same boat. i notice he does walk a bit different so weight and age is catching up to him. we really don't offer him much extra in tid bits etc so it must be the loss of exercise. boy do i need that dog hair in the house. it is awful but i will try anything for as long as i can with this dog. i really wish hubby had the time to help me post pictures. and i am looking for the dog brush also, lol.

with having said that, a big thank you to buttons for allowing pic to be posted and even bigger one to chery for doing it. life would be dull without pictures and posts from friends.

Yes Cheryl, big thank you for taking the time to post the pics of my doggie!

Joy, it's NOT Rags that is actually overweight, it's the little gal Pepper. Rags had been in a shelter for 6 mos & then was seriously attacked.....I figure that's why he was skinny when got him. He has long legs which is kinda hard to detect in these pics.

Pepper is being greatly reduced on the amount of dog biscuits she devours everyday! They both go back to vet on Thurs so hope to see Pepper has lost a few pounds. Weight on a dog is very serious, diabetes & heart disease. And all dogs need the daily "walk" to make their system function properly. Vets want to feel the ribs easily. Just 2# extra is equal to 20# on us humans!

Yes we are all lucky to live here in the woods. Yesterday Rags got to chase a deer on our walk....

hello everyone

okay, i see. then my dog is much bigger than rags. i did notice the long legs. because i thought that if it had been heavier, it would be a really big dog! out on the farm where meanness did live there was all sorts of critters. he had all of 40 acres and he still roamed beyond that. as i said, big dogs can and will go for long ways if not penned up. out in the country it did not matter that much as most folks did have animals that did the same. but once we moved him down here, well that's different. even if they are in your own yard, they will stop and give you a ticket if they want too. or at least a warning. yes, you read that right. so we installed that electric underground fence. but if he is not in his yard, that's too bad.

i had just let him go outside the other day to do his business. i spotted the truck that patrols and heard my dog bark just outside our garage door. i yelled for him to come inside and shut the garage door. sure enough, the doorbell rang! i let hubby answer the door. the dog catcher was asking about a black lab. apparently someone had called one in. one had followed us the last time we walked our dog. i didn't mind as he was a big dog and no trouble. but a much smaller puppy tried to follow and i kept shooing him back. hubby got annoyed as i kept shooing that puppy away. i did not want him to pick up bad habits like following people. i was afraid he would get run over before he went back home. i would not have said a word about the black lab to the man though. it was someone who does not love animals that had a gripe that called. they're everywhere!! it has to be really BAD before i ever complain about an animal to its owner. if it barks at my grandchild on our property and i know it's sorta mean, i do tell the owner. but would not turn it in. and i'd never harm anyone else' pets even if i suspected they had done harm to mine. now i would not have much to do with that person but that's different. we have been told that neighbors poisened our two dogs that were penned up once. i don't doubt it. people have shot dogs in their own pen here at times. or pets found in the country on their own land. guess some nuts just like to take pot shots at things.

bty, i get to practice my typing when i write on pet therapy also. it is getting harder to type and i am noticing more pain sometimes. at times my fingers will do a weird thing where they will bend a certain way and i can't move them. and by now after i have typed all this much on every subject here today, they are very stiff. i have had to quit walking also. i had hoped to start doing just a little walking but that's not to be. my feet and legs swell big time and hip aand back has awful pain. but i hope to be able to steer the golf cart without much pain. and i need to exercise the shoulders so they won't freeze up. geeze, i'm 61 but feel much older.

Well Joy, I might not get off the Pet forum today at the rate I'm going! read my update on ringworm thread.....

I got Rags partly to force me to get out & walk. I've gained 35# and it's sooooo depressing. I have "mystery disease", meaning no doctor has ever been able to diagnose me, told possible Parkinson's,possible MS, first neuro wrote in my file he suspected Creutzfeld-Jacobs! Tests are normal, guy that read my brain MRI found something "not serious @ my age", no idea what he saw.....I suspect Lyme disease but in WA state they claim impossible!

So I gave up on docs last fall & even dropped my health ins. Now what sane person does that?

I have arthritis in my thumbs, and some fingers+knees. I began using cheap castor oil, you might try it,anything is worth a try right? It's greasy though. I try not to live on Tylenol Extra but it does help on really stiff painful days.

I've typed so much today I might not be able to type tomorrow. I know exactly what you mean about using can openers, etc. There are times when I can't open a package. One hand is getting pretty deformed but I'm very grateful it's not worse! I've been forced to use a walker twice in the past few years so I am grateful everyday that I can walk.

You mentioned all the ticks @ the farm in a PM & I keep forgetting to give you feedback on that comment. Have you ever considered you might have Lyme disease? It's NOT just deer ticks that spread it & the co-infections can be far worse than the Lyme itself. I try not to force this on people but it's a very serious disease & nearly impossible to diagnose. I know you have multiple health problems, I just want to give you a heads up about this!

Take care,Buttons

P.S. If you don't have a laptop please beg for one! It's soooooo much easier to use, I have myoclonus & used to toss the mouse off the desk. Now I can rest my arms which also helps alot with use of my hands.

i just got a call from emilee's other grandmother. emilee heard about the pet food recall so the other grandmother had no choice but to call me, lol as emmie is persistant.

it is a good think that the other grandmother and i have a lot in common because believe me if not, we both know i could gladly take a baseball bat to her son, to put it mildly. anyway i'm going back to the list because i had noticed that meanness had just as soon lay around all day as not. but he has gained weight. on the other hand i am surprised at the amount of water he drinks. of course mind you, he had been drinking out of a kid sized swimming pool so i would not even notice just how much he used to drink. hubby pointed out that my concerns were much greater now that he is a house dog verses when he was an outside dog, lol.

well we have spent quite a lot of money on that dog to make sure he stays alive for one thing. the heart worm treatment was not cheap and neither was having him fixed. and he does deserve it, even if i don't take myself to the doctor like i should. so at least he gets the same if not more consideration than i give myself. so it's back to check the list.

the other grandmother is feeding all her animals dry food regardless. they have a registered white german shepard (for emilee) and 3 cats. one is female and expecting babies just any time. she said they were not happy with the dry food for sure. now don't get me wrong, i know she is the type of person that if there are a bunch of kittens, she will give them to somebody. but i could never convince her to take that female cat and have her fixed! no way. i kept telling her even if she had got pregnant they would just do an abortion, it might cost more but there would be fewer cats in this world that need care they probably won't get. i'm not talking about humans here, so don't get riled up, but for animals, yes, i believe take care of what is here first. and don't let animals have just one litter so they will be more mild mannered or some such rot. take in a poor hungry stray that needs help now is my motto. and fix those animals first chance before more come into the world. grown animals are loveable too and need food and love.

sorry will get off my rant and get to checking that recall list. drat, we have fed canned food a lot and i am certain ole roy a few times. but not many if any pouches so i hope we are in the clear.

buttons i'm sorry about your illness. i am going to start taking advantage of my internist doctor. he will send me for tests if i would just ask. so i'm going to start asking. i am going to make that pain management appointment first or i won't be up to all the walking etc. that going to the doctors will require. i can't do anything right. i had started walking more just hoping i could get by with it. i think i had told where my rheumy doctor said NO MORE WALKING back in the early 90's. it was because i had overdone it. believe it or not, i used to walk 10 miles a day and think nothing of it. and yes, i did have pain but i kept going. well gotta run for now. hope things get better for you.

Kathy, and everyone else of course that reads my many posts about Rags!

These pics were taken summer before last I believe. And those ugly green "martha" curtains are still in the LR!!!!

The little dog Pepper is in dog heaven now, almost made me cry just to see her pic again. They were great pals, even though Pepper was too old to play.

The wooden deck faces West towards the fields I see everyday, never did get any pics taken of the path/woods. Maybe this year?

Pati,

thank you so much... i started to remember when you mentioned it on *****'s thread... memory is human!
