Here's my Satin girl all dressed up, waiting to go visit.
She loves visiting those who're having hard times both physically and mentally. She volunteered for 6 years at a local hospital as a "Pet Therapist".
We've volunteered over 100's of hours making people happy by having a visit from her while they're in the hospital.
Enjoy the pictures! They're safe to open...I promise.
Blessings, Cheryl and Satin II

Satin had a "thing going on" with the "guy" next door...he got old and went to doggie heaven.

One photo proves she'd do anything to go places...fits into the tightest spot possible...can you imagine a big dog folding herself up into a tight ball, desperate to prove she won't take up too much space for a long car ride.
How can you pull her out and leave her home!
We were packed up ready to drive 1,600 miles along with my mother who has Alzheimers (that was the longest trip ever!)...from Eagle Creek Oregon, to San Diego Calif....so we relented...and of course the two other dogs, ButterScotch and Thistle, our Scotty dogs...one black, the other a rare wheaton color.
Both Scotties are gone now, in doggie heaven waiting for us to join them.....awwwww!
One photo has Satin dressed up ready to snorkel in the Florida Keys.

satin is a good name for her as her coat is shiny. gosh isn't it neat how our pets love us? really my dog will get up and follow me everywhere i go. he is so big it often poses a problem especially when hubby is thrown into the mix. we have a clutterd house as it is and the dog gets between us and refrigerator or door. so far hubby has held his cool pretty good. i know it's hard especially since he has not been up to par himself.

but my dog has the saddest eyes and does so want to make my approval. tonight i had the broom out to swipe up dog hair and trash into whisk pan. as soon as dog saw the broom he hurried outta there in a hurry! and all i had done was show him the broom and said in a loud voice NO the time he chewed off the cat door trying to get out. we have solved that problem now though as he has learned he really needs to go when he does get to go outside. he's easily scared so i think he will keep working out ok.

i'm thankful he does not want to get up on the couch etc. for one thing i think it would be hard for him to do so. my daughter came for a rare visit and remarked that he had beds everywhere. really he has only about 3 places in the house so i don't think that's so many. we have hardwood or tile everywhere so i thought he might like a little padding. plus i was hoping it would help keep the hair contained better.

meanness is not above picking a spot sometimes that does not have anything and plopping down. i just think maybe it is coolness he is seeking and leave him alone. for an outside dog he has done really good so i have no complaints. until he picked up the little beatrick potter bunny rabbit with built in small blanket that was emilee's favorite baby toy. i don't think i have to worry again. i was surprised he tore up her straw cowboy hat when he first started coming into the house. he does know he takes a back seat when grandaughter is here, lol. i haven't had anymore problems. when she visits we sleep in another room together. meanness will often walk in there to check on us during the night. so tonight i moved one of his blankets by the bed so he can stay if he wants.

Cheryl, I didn't realize there were Wheaton Scotties! I know Pepper is part terrier of some kind but she's the wheaton color also & I've always been curious how she ended up with that color. My son actually got her @ a yard sale & there were 2 of them, the other one was black. She's very low to the ground but has a long tail, and hair is long but always kept clipped.

Joy, Meaness is a lucky dog also! I agree dogs sometimes prefer to lay on the floor to get cool. We also have dog beds all over BUT the sofa is for the dogs, rarely have company but when we do the dogs have to stay off the sofa.

Rags has a stuffed bear he likes to shake, the first one he had for months before he decided to check out the innards, then it went bye-bye of course. He tries to sneak it outside.....only time I can get him to "drop it"! I've given up on getting him to retrieve his rubber toys & drop for me! He's buried 6 toys so far under the deck! Pepper is too old to play with toys anymore but when younger she chewed up everything in sight!

Both dogs get along great, they share the beds, food dishes, etc. Sissy seems to like both of them & is always curious to know what they are doing, I open the door & all 3 of them go out at once. This wasn't always the case,Sissy hid in the shed the first 4 mos we had Rags! Now she walks under him! Have never seen her hiss or scratch @ either dog.

These days I much prefer my pets to humans, I can't handle people yapping their heads off or getting to close to my space-do they think I'm deaf?

see that is what i know is unusual about my dog. he is sorta old but acts like a young dog sometimes. he got along pretty good with mother's cat. i think he is just a good natured dog for sure. but is he ever loud when he barks in the house. i think he is trying to start to be a bit defensive when people enter the house. but as i said he is good natured so i've not worried so far. hadn't had that many people anyway. i'm like you, if no one bothers to visit, at least my dog is company. and he likes me and he's not opiniated either, lol.

Joy, both dogs bark whenever anyone drives up here. Drives me nuts cause sometimes they start barking & I look outside-nobody here! guess they hear things in the woods or ??

anyway it's good to have them as watch dogs, I hate people sneaking up here (it's a long driveway). I even have a beware of dog sign posted. Here by myself alot & lots of drug thieves around!

I'd just had Rags a few months last fall when a car drove up with 2 older women in it,they were out campaigning, Rags was barking his head off right next to the car, then one STUPID woman gets out with some dog biscuits in her hand reaching out to a big barking dog! I told her never to approach a strange dog & never to offer treats to a dog she doesn't know! I was really upset that anyone would be that foolish-geez!

For everyone reading this little tale: never, ever put your hand out to a dog you don't know whether barking or not. When you approach a dog you don't know, just stand still & be CALM,fold your arms,do NOT make eye contact-this is a sign of challenge to them, just ignore them until they have had a chance to sniff you out. Most of us have had an encounter with a little doggie that is sooooo cute we just want to pick it up & cuddle it-not a good idea! Little dogs don't know they aren't a Great Dane & can do alot of damage with their teeth! And watch your ankles!

Also, keep in mind some dogs do NOT bark at strangers, they circle & observe,if they feel a threat they will just lunge without warning.

Only time I've been bitten was my own ignorant fault, I approached my ex-husband's Dobie with my hand out & she was protecting the porch, hadn't seen me in awhile, she could have torn my arm off but barely broke the skin, I was afraid of Dobies for many, many years after that until my son got one & I adored her gentleness-go figure! I still am wary of my other son's Rhottie, I've never so much as patted her on the head, I just ignore her as she does me. And I've seen Pit Bulls fight before, not a pretty sight, I don't care how much people love them, I'll never have one around!

Guess that's more advice than anyone asked for eh?

very good advice. in the past i have walked many many miles and never had trouble with dogs. i have though sometimes held out my hand when they were a FAR distance away from me while advoiding their eyes. sorta getting the scent to them faster. i once delivered phone books and boy did i ever get a few close calls. and got bit by a small dog. that was lucky as there was more large dogs than small.

i also was at town and was just getting out of my vehicle when another girl let her dog get away from her. he was lunging at my throat before she stopped him! but just like you i had a good experience with that almost full blooded doberman dog.

i always know that dogs can get ill also and maybe lose they eye sight some, making them more dangerous. i think my own dog does not have a keen sense of smell. he LOOKS for me when i think he should be able to smell me, lol. for me it is all worthwhile and that is all that counts!!

oh yes, i know i have told this many times but worth repeating. while in the fire department we have had more than one dog wake their owner when they smell smoke. one doverman (can't spell) named seymore sebastian died in the smoke but woke his drunk owner up in time for the man to dive out of the window. the dog ran back down the hall towards the front door and died. it was sad. oh yes, time to change the batteries in smoke alarms. (we haven't YET, and hubby is at a grass fire as i speak. there is always plenty of grass fires this time of year). time to take care of our house too, lol.
