Does anyone have this problem with their child. My son is 8 1/2 and still doesnt always "click" with the signal that his bladder is full. He will start dancing around when he has to go, but says he doesnt until like a minute before an imminant accident. He isnt particularly overly involved in something, so it isnt like he isnt bothering. He just doesn't seem to feel it.
I bought him a vibrating watch set to go off every 1.5 hours to remind him and that has helped. Now the school is obligated to let him go when it goes off. He actually had a teacher denying him permission to use the restroom, because he didnt go when he was scheduled to (didnt feel the need to at the time).
The psychiatrist who prescribes him his Daytrana patch was OH SO HELPFUL.
He said "He just needs to remember to go". He didnt seem to think the watch was necessary. He told my son about going to the restroom even when he didnt feel like going. Of course I have told him this repeatedly for years and years. I think if it were as simple as that he would have it mastered by now. He isnt mentally handicapped or anything, very smart, but still doesnt "get it" with toileting.
