I was diagnosed with RSD about 2 years ago in left foot, lower leg. Its been about the same pain for me until recently. Its almost as if my left side has been separated from my right side I have jerks and twitches. My leg is so cold sometimes on the inside yet on fire on the outside. Does that make sense? I guess my main question/concern is whats happening to my foot. Two of my toes are bright red, and turning down. They look swollen on the top but they arent its bone. Is this RSD? I guess I wasnt ready for this. Has this happened to anyone? What did you do? I should include that along with the RSD I have drop foot. Thank you

:(
I hate to tell you this but it sounds like clubbing. I do not know that much about it but I have read that clubbing is a normal part of RSD, in certain stages. I thankfully am not there (clubbing stage) and I pray that I never get there.
I would call your doctor because I think that you need to discuss PT and other therapys for the issues before it gets worse.

It is time to go back to the doctor. Physical therapy is called for as soon as possible to diminish the contraction. Please don't hesitate for the longer you let it go the less beneficial the result of physical therapy.
Good luck and Godspeed

Dear LuvNangel,
I think it sounds like RSD spreading to me. I had a right foot crushing injury over 2 years ago and it instantly went into RSD. I had it go from one foot/leg to the opposite one two months later and then to upper body and within 4 months I was completely bedridden and not able to walk. I watched it and felt it day by day go through every part of my body yet I could not stop it. It was terrible and I didn't want to live. I just wanted no pain and to be with Jesus. However, I had a 16 year old son to take care of and being a single parent...it just wasn't an option. Believe me he is the only thing that keeps me going!!
You definately need to contact your doctor and tell him/her what is going on because it sounds like it has woken up and is now changing and spreading. I still have twitching but it gets worse at night. I know it is hard but try and hang in there and keep pushing forward.
About the cold/hot thing. I have heat starting 2:00 AM every day it gets hotter and hotter and goes up through my entire body and about 2-3 hours after I am awake it changes over to being cold. So by 3 in the afternoon my foot/leg are ice cold. Every night it gets so cold that it burns and hurts really badly. You do make sense. I know exactly what you are talking about. My foot/leg get real red and hot and swells until I must lie down or I will collapse and get it elevated. I think it has to do with a decreased blood flow and that is why it turns red. Also, I have atrophy in my foot/leg where the injury occured and it is clubbed and turning in. I don't think anyone would be ready for RSD in any form. It is just so difficult to explain to anyone that has not had it. They have no idea how bad the pain can be. Everything you are explaining to us has already happened to me [or one of us]. So, post all your questions here. This is a great place for support and information. Most doctors are clueless about everything that goes on with RSD.
Take care,
Kathy d.
