Hi all, I thought I would post this here to see what others think or if anyone else has had this problem...

For over a year now, I've been having kidney pain, alot of times whenever I urinate but sometimes I get kidney spasms out of the blue, at any time of the night or day...it started with only one kidney, but now I'm having symptoms in both kidneys.

Once in a while the pain is bad, just like when you go running and get a sideache.

Also, have noticed (for over a year now too) less urine output and also, my legs are swelled somewhat....

I also had to go to the ER over last summer....

Well my old hospital refused to even discuss this with me after the ER visit...when I was told to get a followup appt (they told me my potassium levels were extremely low but that was all they found at that moment)...

I recently got new doctors, new hmo/hospital and last week went in and had tests and blood work done, I was told they can't find anything wrong.....

But I have had severe injury to my back (compression fracture) and also have scoliosis in my upper spine and sciatica in my lower spine and get horrible lightening bolt pains in my leg and a few times in my spine.

The doctor did tell me to start Physical Therapy again, which I plan on doing but only after my surgury this week and after recuperating from it....

Meanwhile, I still have muscle spasms in my kidneys, low urine output and swelling in my legs...

And I am worried.

All this while getting ready for surgury, and fighting for social security disability....too.

Dear Sunshine,

I, too, have problems with my kidney(s). Since 2005 I have had traces of blood in my urine. I went for a scan in 2005

, no stones. My right kidney feels like it is being squeezed like a sponge.

Just recently, December, my left kidney started to feel the same.

I have talked to urologist, gynecologist and primary, nobody seems to worried.

I started to think maybe I have done some damage with all the tylenol and advil I take for pain.

I hope you get some answers.

Take Care
nan

Sunshine,
I am so sorry you are going through this. On almost every thread people complain about Doctors not listening to them! I can not understand why:( !! We know ourselves and our bodies better than anyone else!

I have trouble with my bowels and my kidneys, trouble starting my urine and the need to push so hard to get it all out. Sometimes I think I am done and then I will leak urine down my leg:eek: .

I have changed Doctors many times and am still not satisfied with my primary Doctor. I developed severe edema/swelling all over. I now take 80mg of lasix everyday and hydroccclorathiazide to get rid of all of the extra fluid I had/ have. I now am on a heart medication because my heart began racing due to a low potassium. Can the Doctor give me a reason for any of this NO!

I JUST KEEP TAKING MORE MEDICATION. WHICH I AM REALLY TIRED OF TAKING! I think because I have a brain disorder, they blame everything on that which really explains nothing!

I just want you to know that you are not alone. Keep asking and don't take no or I don't know for an answer! I am still fighting!

Keep me posted, I am interested in the answers that you get!;)

With the potassium level and the pain you are experiencing you need to consult a Urologist in a teaching hospital who will be able to give you a second or third opinion . You need to know what is going on before you lose the use of your kidneys

If you can find a hospital in your area connected to a medical school you will have the best chance of getting the answers you need and are looking for.

WEll, just so you know, I fought for 4 years to get this HMO that I have now, I was going to a teaching hospital for my care and they told me they didn't want to talk to me about my kidney problems (and this was on a follow up visit after an ER visit 3 years ago now).

I had to go in again (or go to the ER if they didn't see me) and the doctor I saw didn't want me to have any more radiation (I just went through surgury this past year, a relapse fromt the surgury and also a cancer scare and biopsy and another ultrasound...lots of radiation. He told me he won't perform any tests right now....I was having horrible cramping and pain in both of my kidneys, too. I was feeling very sick.
