I just happened to see part of a piece about an actor who had dealt with weight problems all his life, and finally at 350 pounds, he decided to go the surgical route, with a Mini Gastric Bypass.

I was wondering if anyone has had this done or know about it. A website is http://clos.net/

If you want to see the procedure, look up "Gil Gerard" and "surgery" on YouTube.

I went to the hospital in my area that gives a lecture about gastric bypass and the lap band. This was never talked about. I have 6 different friends that have gone through one of these. 3 had major complications. One of the worst had everything go wrong except have a blood clot go to his heart and die. 5 of them are gaining the weight back the one isn't but not totally sure he is ok. The supliments he is suppose to take everday comes back up. 2 yrs later he is still on liquids. I know of a lot of pthers that have had it with either bad out comes or getting the weight back. Please just be careful...

My hubby brought up an interesting point, what if a person ATE like they had one of these lap bands, only they didn't have it? Would they still lose weight? I have to wonder if it would work. Anyone know how to get a hold of a diet for someone that has one of these procedures done? Thanks for any info in advance! :D

I had gastric bypass 5 1/2 years ago and am happy to say that I lost 183 pounds. The doctor put me on the drug Seroquel and I gained 65 pounds in about 2 months. He switched my meds to cymbalta, lamictal and paxil and I am back down. I still would like to lose an additional 75 -80 pounds and once I get this pain under control, will see my bariatric surgeon to see hecan do a lap band for the extra 80 pounds. I eat everything I did before, just really really small helpings. Like a tablesppon of this or that, because if I eat too much of certain items I get sick and throw up. I can't eat rice, sweets, or gravies. But everything else seems okay.

I used www.atlantabariatrics.com. They have great info and some after procedures meals you can have that are tasty. Just remember it is like the atkins diet....eat protien first and then vegi's, then fruits then bread but by the time the bread comes around you won't feel like eating it. you will be tooo full.
Good luck

my brother in law got a lap band, which can be tightened, removed, and is arthoscopic. He gets green around the gills if he overeats now. He still inhales his food rapidly without chewing and orders the highest fat item, so he's always half sick, but he still lost 40 pounds. I think you lose a LOT more if you can avoid his 2 problems.
