Hi everyone,
I went to my neuro this morning and he prescribed Neurontin for my chronic headaches. I have been thru the whole list of meds and he says this is my last hope. Have any of taken Neurontin for headaches? If so, could you let me know if it helped? Thank you

Hi Nathan,
I was prescribed neurontin for chronic migraines and it helped to a degree, it is supposed to help with migraines and for a few months I went without one so I don't know how much is creditied to the neurontin or to the fact of the time of year it was that allergies weren't in high gear. But it's worth a shot if you'vve tried other things unsuccessfully, it might work for you like it seemed to for me. :)

Worked great for a period of time, then stopped. The story of my life when I actually found one of those rare preventatives that actually helped. By upping the dose I was able to buy some more time. On the plus side, I didn't suffer any side effects.
BTW, for those who might be interested, Cymbalta, a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor antidepressant, has been the first preventative (after say 50 or so) that has not only helped my headaches but not fizzled out. It has FDA approval for neuropathic pain (which I also suffer from, unrelated to the headaches) as well as depression. Imagine, I can now take Excedrin for the occasional breakthrough headaches and get relief! And suffering from almost daily migraines, complete with nausea and vomiting and "somebody just shoot me" pain, as I did for more than 20 years, is enough to leave anybody depressed. Life is good now.

Hi, I took neurontin for a while but it didn't do much. I'm now on Lyrica which is similiar to neurontin and it works much better. Are you only taking one medication at a time? Keep up your hope, I've been told this is the last resort so many times, and some how every time some other option pops up. PM me if you want to talk about this more. Best wishes,
AJ
I took it for chronic Cluster Headaches for about 5 years. I kept having to increase the dose, though. By year 5, I was taking 1800 mgs a day and had gained 40 lbs. :( It did help some most of that time. Then it didn't help anymore.

My 14 year old daughter took it for about two months after Epilim. Epilim was more useful in the first instance and so she returned to that but it didn't work that time around either.
She is on low dose replacement therapy of Hydrocortisone which works really well for her. Her paediatrician suspected based on symptoms that she had a problem producing cortisol but we were unable to get the tests done so treatment was started out of desperation. Now the tests come back inconclusive and the Endocrinologist says she has chronic fatigue syndrome - only her response to Hydrocortisone isn't consistent with this and none of the other doctors agree.
She has also had low neutrophils which resolved with steroids, low ferritin and ? raised intracranial pressure (which might also resolve with steroids right?)
Good luck. I think Neurotoin is worth a go if you have tried other preventers and failed.
