I did not see this posted even though it is from May 2006 - sorry if it is a duplicate post. http://consensus.nih.gov/2006/2006MultivitaminMineralSOS028html.htm
NIH State-of-the-Science Conference on
Multivitamin/Mineral Supplements and Chronic Disease Prevention
May 15-17, 2006

I only browsed this breifly, but was really struck by how little information they covered in terms of disease/conditions that may respond to various vitamin/mineral supplements.
They would have done themselves a favor to look here for a better accounting of what studies are out there:

When your read these reports you can see than nothing has changed since Hans Christian Anderson wrote The Emperor's New Clothes.
I'm glad I'm not an official responsible for putting out such outdated rubbish. When you think that was published in May 2006 it's simply a demonstration of how negligent the medical profession are in keeping up to date with the latest findings.
I only searched it for "Vitamin d" surprise, surprise, and after having a good laugh thought how sad it is that despite all the research that has happened since Heaney pointed out that 3-5000iu/d is needed, we still have them relying on really crap research showing that 400iu/d doesn't produce any effect.
Never ever trust a doctor to manage your finances.
If the idiots think that you can spend $4000 a day and expect $400 earnings a day to offset that expenditure you'll be bankrupt before long.
Is it any wonder that at least 85% of USA population have insufficient Vit d status?
Is it any wonder that 87% of the UK white population are Vit d insufficient? (http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/abstract/85/3/860)
We know, full well, that those with the highest vitamin d status have 50% lower breast cancer incidence, we know the prognosis for those with the highest Vit d status is far better than those with the lowest status.
It doesn't just make me laugh to read such inane rubbish as contained in that report, it makes me mad, absolutely spitting furious mad. We really ought to be suing the hides of these lazy, incompetent, ignorant, negligent fools.
If that really is the consensus they should be ashamed of themselves.
