There is an excellent book I would recommend called

Transforming the Difficult Child: The Nurtured Heart Approach
by Howard Glasser

It isn't actually written to help parent children on autism spectrum, but there are some really great ideas in it that can be adapted. It's basically about teaching a child how to use their intensity in positive ways instead of in negative ways.

I've found most parenting classes and manuals and books have not been very relevant to my parenting my son. My daughter was more straightforward to parent. She isn't on autism spectrum though, but with my son who is, I tended to have to work it out as I went along. He is very intense. I think of it these days as trying to stay one step ahead of him :D

When the book first came out I was a bit taken about by the title, using the word "difficult" like that, but I'm over that now.

worth a read if you have time.
