View Full Version : Strange things since brain surgery

I had surgery to remove a benign tumor from my brain almost a year ago, and this is going to sound crazy, but everytime the weather changes (ex: is about to get damp, rainy, a storm is approaching, etc...) I start to get twitching in my hands, and the creepy crawly muscle twitches in my arms and legs, along with increased pressure in my head. I have had all kinds of tests, and I am taking Topamax. Does anyone else experience anything like this?

Hi Jim and welcome to BrainTalk :)
I'm sorry but I don't have any answers for you, just wanted to say hi :)

Hey, Jim. :)
I endure reactions to weather changes, too. These sound like partial seizure activity from the change in barometric pressure. Mention this to your neurosurgeon if it's a frequent occurrence.

Hi Jim,
I agree with Lizard, it sounds like seizure activity.
I too have had brain surgery, and now I get very bad headaches/strange sensations and a feeling of heaviness when the weather is raining, humid or damp.
I have been diagnosed as having temporal lobe seizures and I have seizure activity after a bad weather day. It is really frustrating, and continues to remind me of the brain surgery which I try hard to forget!
Were you put on anti-seizure meds after your surgery? I was not and had to go to a epilepsy neurologist to finally get the answers to my symptoms..If you do not have a neurologist I suggest you go to one that specialises in Epilepsy, they are better at understanding your symptoms. I had an eeg which showed slowing of the focal area and was prescribed Lamictal. I still have problems due to the weather and when I am either stressed out or over tired.

Jim, these sound like simple partial seizures. It's unfortunate that the Topomax isn't helping. Please mention this to your nsg. Another med may be necessary to control them.
Good luck...

Hi.
I am on Topamax for anti-seizure. I had an EEG both at the office and a 24 hour one that I took home with me (that was an interesting train ride) that came back normal. Besides the clumsiness and weakness in my hands, and the twitching, visual issues, etc... I sometimes feel like I am just on the edge of losing control of my motor functions. I have never had what I would call a seizure, but I have sometimes felt like I could be on the verge of it. I just wish I (or someone else) knew what was going on. The Tompamax so far just makes me sleepy and spacey sometimes.

Sorry for the repeat note :o. Old age. :) (Yes, I'm 40 yo today! :D )
In all seriousness, I have to tell you that I trust EEGs about as far as I can throw them. I have had epilepsy all my life, and I have had normal and abnormal readings from several types, including 24-hour. I had a completely normal 24 hour EEG and then proceeded to have six grand mals over the course of two years! :( Granted, my son was exhibiting signs of autism, and his doctors blew me off at every turn when I tried to express concern, but this is proof that EEGs are great liars. If you aren't experiencing sz activity during the time of the EEG, it can very well read normal, especially in the case of simple partials, which can be very subtle and deep in the brain, thus they can be hard to detect.
Just an FYI...
