My mom and dad were divorced when I was 8 years old and I saw him recently for the first time in 35 years. (I had seen him only once before since their divorce and that was when I was 15.) He still works on a daily basis as a truck driver. What surprized me was that he is now 74 years old and in anger management classes. I suppose anger/rage has always been an issue with him.
When I was 5 he caught me playing with the electric stove and held my hand down on a red hot burner to teach me a lesson. (I don't know what the lesson was but I haven't touched a red hot burner since then.) I knew to keep my distance from him when he was home and once walked around the other side of the table as we were walking opposite ways in the same room. He whipped off his leather belt and hit me in the face with it cause I guess I looked at him wrong.
It just really seems odd to me that he is that old and in anger management. I guess I thought he would have grown out of it or learned to control it by now.
