View Full Version : Post-operative angiograms
Scared and depressed

 When I had my coiling done after my ruptured aneurysm; I thought I was finished with all invasive procedures. Now I find that I have to have several angiograms over the following months and years. I am so scared of them since many complications can develop during it; including death. Is there ANY other non invasive procedure I can have in place of the angiogram?????

Hi there welcome to BrainTalk :)
I don't have an answer for you because I'm not all that familiar with angiograms.
There is an Aneurysm forum here where you might find some more info though.

A cardiac echo gives a lot of info, especially if it is a color one. See if you can sub at least every other one with an echo.
Take care.

I'm with Zombie on this one, no knowledge whatsoever!
Just wanted to welcome you to BT & let you know we are here for you! I'd be scared also.....do you have a good relationship with your neuro or the misfortune of an egotist??
Take care,Buttons

My neuro was nice but said very little. He just said that I have to have several angiograms over a period of years and when I asked if I could have some other type of test; he kind of dismissed it and said yes; the angiogram is the ONLY test you can get. So; since I'm a natural curious type; I was looking for another way of testing from patients that have gone through this. I like you....you sound like you have the right attitude. Keep it up!!!!!!

You might try posting your inquiry on other forums to see if people there might have more pertinent information. Gen. Neurology and Rare Disorders, might be one. Lots of people begin there. Cheerio.

Tootsie gave you a good suggestion. glad you are curious cause doctor's are not God & cannot possibly know everything even in their field of expertise!First neuro I saw wrote he suspected I had Crueztfeld-Jacob disease (sp). That was interesting to read after a few years of "you are a mystery". I'd already be dead if that had been a real diagnosis!
My attitude is not one I'd want to impart onto other people. After 8 years of different doctor's,many tests, dealing with HMO's,insurance-well I finally decided the STRESS it caused me just wasn't worth it.
I'll continue to research, take my vits/herbals & be grateful for any improvements & try not to freak about all my strange symptoms! As long as I'm still around I will keep searching, but sad to say for me the local health community is NOT the route to go!
You might want to switch neuro's. This is YOUR brain & you deserve a doctor open minded enough to consider different methods! One word of caution (based on my experience)-be very careful about imparting any knowledge you get from the internet! Doctor's are used to being the BOSS of our health, they freeze up when questioned. They have no idea how much we are discovering on these forums & through our own research. And seems to me their "bedside manners" have totally gone out the door. They chose to be doctor's but somewhere along the way they forgot to be "fellow human beings".....this is just my opinion!
Take care & know that we are here for you!

There are two things that you need to keep in mind. There is no way to know whether or not information you find on the Internet is authentic and accurate. Secondly, there are always new diagnostic procedures being discovered or old technology being used in a new way.
Over the course of your life, things that were state of the art, at the time, are now obsolete. Do not spend your time and energy worrying about some test that your doctor wants you to have a year from now. It may not be necessary by that time. Cheerio.

Just had one of these today and don't have the results but it was painless and quick. The nurse told me that if they find anything at all iffy..they do the heart cath thru the groin. It was on Oprah a year or so ago. I will post when I get the results. It was a piece of cake!

Hey. It's my first post here at the forums. I'm just a young 22 year old.
Anyway, about a year ago, I had a CT Angiogram done and they did the same procedure as flower was talking about. Pretty much painless except for some discomfort when making an incision and injecting the contrast dye while doing the CT scan. Other than that, The procedure went smooth and the x-rays did a good job making sure that everything in my head looked fine.
