My neuro called last sunday and we made decisions about changing my meds.

Frankly, he said a lot and I could not listen and write. So, I'm not sure exactly...but, I will take a low dose methotraxate pill daily. I remember he said steroids but don't remember how much or how they will be delivered. I think I will continue on copaxone. So, I'll stop the IVIg and switch to methotrexate and steroids.

A friend (who sees Riskind at UMass) told me she takes several methotrexate pills once a week and does steroids for 5 days in a row (infusion) every four months.

I was hoping for feedback on the protocol anyone else uses. (My neuro went on vacation for 2 weeks and I am getting 3 MRIs and blood tests...so the change will take a month or so)

Thanks for any info.

I took methotrexate once per week. I'm wondering if you should get a second opinion or something. I've only ever read or heard about weekly methotrexate. I'm concerned about this daily methotrexate prescription. Can you second-check it with your GP?

I appreciate your response.

As I said, My neuro called last sunday and I could not listen and take notes too! I have the basics right but the details are not clear.

His office had scheduled 3 mri appointments (brain, neck and spine). Also a pulmonary function test (I have no idea what that is). I already got blood tests. So, when his vacation is over I will see him, get the details straight and begin.

The phone call from my neuro lasted a half an hour. He explained the reasons he was recommending methotrexate and not tysabri. So the call was long and detailed.

he has consulted with several others...and he has been working with me for 17 years.

When the process is in place I'll post with the details so we can compare.

Here's hoping!

Good.

I'm also a bit relieved.

Methotrexate can be given in many different forms. It can be taken as pills, or as an IV infusion. I actually had four intrathecal (spinal) shots of methotrexate back in 2004. My doctor has had great success with this method, unfortunately I did not get any benefit from it.

Best of luck with your treatment...
